Today, we’d like to introduce the provider of Materials Square, a cloud-based simulation web platform, Virtual Lab.
Virtual Lab provides a service that eliminates complex calculations by using supercomputers to research materials in various colleges and laboratories. You can calculate the property of materials by clicking several times in a web browser, and derive the analysis results through Materials Square.

Q1. Please tell us about your company and the services you provide!
Virtual Lab was founded in 2016 by a researcher from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology with support from Korea Techno Venture Foundation and Seoul Startup Growth Center. We’re currently trying to support material research simulations through Materials Square to reduce research costs and provide a platform for users to focus on material research.
Q2. Why did you choose NAVER Cloud Platform?
We put security first when we choose the cloud. We chose NAVER Cloud Platform because it was the first to receive “CSA STAR” certification in Korea. We recently found out that its security levels were high enough to even obtain the SOC international certification.
Also, it was beneficial for us to be able to launch our service in Marketplace while using NAVER Cloud Platform, get lots of users, and handle marketing easily.

Q3. Which NAVER Cloud Platform services are you planning to use, and how did you configure your architecture?
We want to use the following services in NAVER Cloud Platform.
> HPC: High-performance computing
> Load Balancer: Stable service and traffic distribution
> Object Storage: Data storage
> Block Storage: Data storage for server assignment
We expect that the storage infrastructure customized and provided by NAVER Cloud Platform and its robust security features will be the most helpful for our storage needs.
Q4. What are the distinctive features or advantages of NAVER Cloud Platform?
We think that NAVER Cloud Platform’s biggest strength is its excellent security. Also, we feel that it’s much more convenient than other companies’ products, thanks to its excellent readability and Cloud Console’s familiar UI/UX.
When it comes to customer support, they excellently solve the problems and failures that occur when using the service through their quick technical support.
Q5. What kind of services do you want to provide by using NAVER Cloud Platform in the future?
Virtual Lab will provide educational content services to colleges, graduate schools, research institutes, and companies through NAVER Cloud Platform. We plan to develop our services so that material-related education in colleges and companies will be closer to real industries or modern material technologies.
