Hello, this is NAVER Cloud Platform on ncloud.com, the cloud that anyone can easily start using.

When customers use various services, they are inevitably exposed to the threat of personal information leakage.

Customers need to manage their personal information more strictly, such as regularly changing passwords or using two-factor authentication.

At the same time, companies providing services should establish a strong protection system for the personal information to protect the valuable personal information of their customers.

So!

On January 17, NAVER Cloud became the very first Korean Cloud Service Provider (CSP) to acquire the CBPR certification!

What is CBPR?

Cross Border Privacy Rule (CBPR) is a certification system to evaluate a company’s personal information protection system for free and safe transfers of personal information among Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries.

It comprehensively evaluates 9 APEC privacy principles, and about 40 companies, including NAVER, Apple, and Cisco, have acquired the certification.

APEC Privacy Framework which features 9 privacy principles;

- Notice
- Collection Limitation
- Uses of Personal Information
- Choice
- Integrity of Personal Information
- Security safeguards
- Access and Correction
- Accountability
- Preventing Harm

* APEC member countries: 9 countries in total (United States, Mexico, Japan, Canada, Korea, Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Philippines)

Why is it good to acquire the CBPR certification?

🙌 For Customers

Customers can be guaranteed global standard level information protection.

Participating companies should comply with standards established by the APEC CBPR system and domestic laws in the economic bloc in which their businesses are. As third-party accountability agents evaluate the companies’ policies and practices, customers can trust the companies.

In particular, Japan and Singapore allow CBPR-certified companies to transfer personal information abroad freely according to their domestic laws. This proves that the CBPR certification system is highly trusted.

🙌 For NAVER Cloud

With this certification, NAVER Cloud has built up an infrastructure for expanding its global business in recognition of its establishment and effective operation of a global standard personal information protection system.

The CBPR system also has a positive role in improving country risk among APEC member countries.

Choi Won Hyuk, Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) of NAVER Cloud, said, “We’ll make a greater effort to strengthen NAVER Cloud’s excellence in security and provide reliable services.”

The importance of international certification is increasing as laws related to personal information protection are being strengthened globally. More development is expected for CBPR with future global regulations.

NAVER Cloud will continue to play a significant part in the personal protection system through its recognized global-level system by acquiring the very first CBPR certification among Korean CSPs!
