Rinki and Ravina, Students of Navgurukul

Navgurukul is one year fully funded software engineering course with a guaranteed job. We want this program to be useful for any person who wants to study and become something but doesn’t have enough opportunities. That’s why different NGOs who partner with us go to different parts of the country to tell people about our program.

This time, we i.e. Rinki and Ravina, went on a 14 days trip to Jharkhand to support one such NGO named CINI spread the information about our program in small villages in Khunti district.

Here in this post, we want to share with you our experience and lessons from this visit.

Visiting Jharkhand was our first mobilization experience. It was very new for us where many things were expected of us like giving presentations in front of many students, teachers and many times other people as well. Speaking about Navgurukul and giving answers to their questions, be confident, make the place comfortable so that students or others can ask any type of questions related to Navgurukul, convince them to join Navgurukul, etc.

It was very challenging for us because all of this was new to us. Before going to Jharkhand we were little tensed that will we be able to do this. How will we be able to get more students? But when we went there and visited the schools and Block Resource Centers (BRCs), we were able to speak confidently.

Our information sessions in different schools in various villages

Lessons learned : -

  1. How to lead the session (make the session silent and interesting)
  2. We got the motivation to work hard from Jharkhand people especially that Aunty who made food for us, she did not get time to go even to the toilet, she was sleeping only 5-6 hours and happily handles the hotel. Similarly from super-30 students and CINI staff team who worked really hard.

3. We still don’t understand how there school’s teacher or CINI is handling libraries and cleanliness, everything is perfect like things are in their places only, students use the library and they make dirty also but they setups also.

4. We met many people who are working on different projects so we learned many things from them too.

5. We learned how to make a library but we can’t make it here at Navgurukul.

6. We learned how to make a sticky board.

7. By noticing the CINI staff’s patience of working for 8 -9 years on the same job we learned to have patience.

8. Special thank you to CINI staff (Vikash, Sushil, Prashant Ji, and some other people sorry we forgot the names), who really worked hard to visit with us and helped us. It is very inspiring to see Ashutosh Ji’s (CINI staff) small center (Multipurpose Center Khunti).

9. While working with CINI people we observed that there is a lack of communication. Because we saw there some staff were not knowing about Navgurukul and about the test process which Surabhi di (Navgurukul’s Team Member) had sent to the team. We learned the importance of intra-team communication.

10. About test - after visiting 11 schools and BRCs we took the test for admission in Navgurukul (first step test) on that time almost 200 students came for giving test which we never expect even we were tensed that students will come or not because in rural arias it is very difficult to make them believe on us.

They don’t believe on NGOs because they already faced so many problems like some fake NGOs are taking their child and selling in another country, making them servent or some very cheap work giving to do and that students life has totally spoiled.

Taking basic Math Test

11. After that test, we didn’t have that much time so we were visiting and taking the test directly in the schools only.

12. While doing mobilization we enjoyed a lot, we visited many awesome places, like “Perwaghagh” one of the famous falls in India, one of the tallest temples.

Sometimes we used to go too far like 20 - 40 km by bike with CINI staff inside Forest’s schools so we were eating lunch in Dhabas it was very interesting, we ate on the bowls which are made by leaf.

All in all, it was a great learning experience for us. We hope to get some new students at Navgurukul from Jharkhand.
