Since the most recent election, there’s been lots of talk about Russia meddling in the election and conspiracies about Trump colluding with Putin.

It’s almost reminiscent of the Red Scare, with numerous individuals on the public stage being accused and at times slandered as “Russian assets” by their detractors.

Tulsi Gabbard, a U.S. presidential candidate, long-time US Representative and a standing officer in the US military was basically smeared as a Russian asset by multiple journalists, public figures, and publications for the crime of presenting unique and unpopular viewpoints.

That’s an accusation that should not be made lightly, yet it seems to be thrown around haphazardly these days.

Even doing something as simple as criticizing the current impeachment process is enough to have publications like the LA Times printing hit articles about you for wrong-think.

Russia has become a huge talking point that’s spawned multiple claims, accusations, and stereotypes about American politics and national loyalty.

It’s often used as a tool to dismiss or attack the character of individuals with viewpoints that go against the conventional or the mainstream.
