Japan is at it again! This time, the country is revolutionizing the music industry. Japan has combined everyone’s two favorite things, underage girls and death metal, to create the “sugarplum-death-candypop-metal-fusion ™ group BABYMETAL.

Babymetal is comprised of three Japanese girls, ages 14–16, who combine infectiously irritating poppy choruses with cascades of, quite complex, heavy metal guitars and drums. Yes, it’s as absurdly awesome as it sounds.

Babymetal in action. Such baby. Much metal.

The band stated that the “baby” part of “babymetal” came from the fact that this was a “newborn” genre, but we all know the real reason: Babies+Heavy Metal=YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION.

The band is extremely popular with many of their songs having surpassed thirty million views. Impressive for a country with 127 million people.

What’s even more ridiculous about Babymetal is how they’ve become more than just a sideshow. They’ve played at various festivals alongside metal name-stays such as Dragonforce, Metallica and Megadeath. Just picture that for a moment, and then imagine all those diehard metal-heads’ brains slowly melting into horrified mush as they watch cute, tiny Japanese girls giggling and dancing their way through a heavy metal show. It’s a beautiful thought.

The new faces of Metal

The future of music is here, and it’s 16-year-old Japanese girls playing heavy metal. Here’s a video of them performing their hit song “Give Me Chocolate”. Now just remember, they’re 14–16 years old. (I did that research to save you from saying anything really, really creepy. You can thank me later).
