Harvest season is coming soon and agribusiness companies have just enough time to introduce the new technologies. Today we’ll showcase how to tackle elevator theft and accurately measure grain level with the help of IoT. After all, telematics is not just GPS and vehicle telemetry but real-time precise data, remote device management, and smart automation.

Control over grain and investments

Detecting grain theft is no easy job. Due to drying, dedusting and other processes the product shrinks, which allows sneaky workers to use it to their advantage. Even if the theft is reported, it will be next to impossible to track down the culprit. When did it happen? Who might have entered the grain bin? Without e-logs and alarms, it is just guesswork.

Another problem is also connected to the grain’s natural losses. Due to the discrepancies between initial and final product weight, agricultural companies can’t provide accurate quantities to the banks. No proven data, no loans for development.

Keeping the elevator doors sealed

We decided to take the case step by step. First, we introduced an E-lock to efficiently fight grain theft. This smart device is installed on the elevator door to detect every entering and exiting the grain bin. Navixy platform allows sending notifications (push, text and email) every time the door opens, or if it opens after certain hours. Users can also generate reports to benchmark the data for past periods.

Online widgets, automatic alerts and reports

To measure the bulk solids we adopted a bundled solution of ultrasonic level sensor + GPS tracker. The sensor provides constant monitoring of the grain level while the platform syncs the readings online and logs them automatically. Providing current data or monthly reports to the bank will be a no-brainer.

The telematics platform will also immediately notify about any “drains” and “refills” in the grain elevator. In case of a drastic level change, it will send an alert to the managers and the stakeholders:

Agriculture and beyond

The software and hardware combo is applicable not only for crops but other bulk solids too, e.g. concrete, crushed rocks, ground ore, mixed products, etc. Learn more case studies at navixy.com or reach out on social media.
