The Israel-Palestine conflict has long been fraught with debate and covering the basics alone is a formidable task. Our goal for this set of readings is to lay the foundation for future discussion. In doing so, we will cover: (1) the conflict’s timeline and main players, and (2) a small sampling of policy perspectives.

All Readings:

(1) Vox video: A brief, simple, history

(2) Vox guide: Everything you need to know about Israel-Palestine

(3) Anecdotal Israeli vs. Palestinian views of the same facts

(4) Palestinian skepticism of a two-state solution

(5) Israeli skepticism of peaceful resolution

(6) A case for greater involvement of American Jews and its unexpected backlash

Overview

Vox provides a great video summary and comprehensive guide for the modern Israel-Palestine conflict. While the video is a good introduction, the guide really maps out the relevant players and issues. I recommend reading it thoroughly as it anticipated, and answered, many of my questions.

Some Policy Perspectives

There seems to be a near-infinite number of viewpoints on the Israel-Palestine conflict, including many disagreements within the “pro-Israel” and “pro-Palestine” factions. The following is a narrow sampling of opinions and should not be considered representative of the larger political universe.

(3) Anecdotal Israeli vs. Palestinian views of the same facts

(4) Palestinian skepticism of a two-state solution

(5) Israeli skepticism of peaceful resolution

(6) A case for greater involvement of American Jews and its unexpected backlash
