Ten Reasons to visit Cliffs of the Neuse State Park

1. Beat the heat and cool off in the lake!

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is home to an 11-acre swimming lake with a nice sandy beach! There are also other features to take advantage of, such as a nice grass-covered lawn, boats available for rent, and a diving platform!

2. There are over eight miles of hiking and biking trails.

No matter your stamina, Cliffs of the Neuse state park has a trail for you to get some steps in on! Trails at the park range from 0.2 to 8 miles in length, so no matter how far you’d like to walk , there’s a trail for you to conquer!

3. Cliffs of the Neuse even has a visitor museum.

The visitor museum at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park has “museum-quality exhibits” which “explore the natural and cultural history of the region, complementing regular interpretive programs,” as stated on the parks website!

4. Explore the flora of the region.

Plant life that you will be able to find in the area include the Longleaf Pine, Cypress, and Spanish Moss.

5. Explore the fauna of the region.

Animals you can find in the area include the White-Tailed Deer, Eastern Fox Squirrel, and the Prothonotary Warbler

6. There’s plenty of room for camping!

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park has campsites for groups, a 32-site family campground, and even reservable cabins! So whether you want to sleep under the stars, or prefer to be in a cabin, there’s a place for you at this park!

7. There are educational events throughout the year.

If you are looking to learn more about the park, the flora, and the fauna of the area. Cliffs of the Neuse State Park has educational programs all the time! Visit the park’s website to see when the next one is taking place.

8. It’s a great place for a picnic!

This park has 30 picnic tables and 10 grills in their picnic area. The uncovered area receives shade from tall and beautiful pine trees. There is even a sheltered area for covered dining.

9. You can go boating on the lake.

If you prefer not to swim, but still want to go on the water, boats are available to rent and take out for a spin!

10. It’s great for educators!

There is a program about the park which “ basic geologic concepts, including geologic history, fossils and prehistoric life, and erosion,” as stated on the website. In addition to this, there is also a booklet and workshop for the educators, completely free of charge!
