Ten Reasons to visit Medoc Mountain State Park

1. There are a plethora of trails to hike!

If you’re looking to get your steps in, or just want to get out in the fresh air, come walk a trail at Medoc Mountain State Park. With many different trails of different lengths, there is definitely one for you to conquer, regardless of your stamina. The shortest park trail is just half a mile in length, and the longest trail spans 5.3 miles.

2. Go mountain biking!

This park has nine miles of trails for mountain biking! They roll through terrain suitable for riders of all skill levels so that anybody who is willing to participate, can!

3. Go horseback riding!

As stated on the park website, there are about “10 miles of bridle trails” that “travel through rolling terrain and follow a portion of beautiful Little Fishing Creek.”

4. Educational and exciting events happen at Medoc Mountain State Park!

5. Go camping!

There are many different ways to camp at Medoc Mountain State Park! Group camping is an option, with sites available that accommodate up to 35 people. There is also tent, trailer, and RV camping, complete with tent pads, tables, grills, and a nearby washhouse. There is even equestrian camping, so if you want to bring your horse, you can!

6. Go fishing!

Medoc Mountain is a great destination for fishing! Little Fishing Creek is said to be one of the cleanest streams in North Carolina. Fish that you may catch here include the Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, and Chain Pickerel.

7. It’s a great place to watch the stars!

At night, Medoc Mountain State Park is a great place to stargaze, thanks to the low levels of pollution in the area! If you’re interested in astronomy, this is a great place for you to visit.

8. See rare flora!

Wild Ginger (also known as Lewis’ Heartleaf) is found all through the Dam Site Loop Trail. This plant is rare to find outside of Halifax County!

9. Have a picnic!

There are 30 picnic tables at the park for those who want to have a picnic at Medoc Mountain. There are also eight grills, for those who want to grill out!

10. Medoc Mountain supposedly has a special resident.

It has been said by cryptozoologists that have studied the area, that Bigfoot calls the Medoc Mountain area home. Some residents of the area have even claimed to have seen the hairy creature.
