Dear NEAR Community,

A new era is dawning upon the NEAR ecosystem, and at its forefront stands the NEAR Digital Collective (NDC). This remarkable initiative has been conceived with the vision of ushering in a transformative paradigm shift in how NEAR is governed.

The NDC is not just an ambitious project; it’s a groundbreaking endeavor that unites users, projects, stakeholders, and partners within the NEAR ecosystem. Its mission is to carve out an entirely novel approach to governance — one that marries transparency, collective decision-making, evolving governance models, and self-determination in a way that has never been seen before.

At its core, the NDC seeks to create a framework where every member of the NEAR community has a meaningful say in the direction and management of the ecosystem. Our primary goal is to foster an inclusive environment that empowers our community to actively shape the future of NEAR.

The NDC operates under a set of core principles and aspirations, guided by the belief that success is built on:

  1. Better User Experiences: We strive to enhance the experience for all NEAR users.
  2. Developer Attraction: We aim to attract more developers and become a preferred platform for them.
  3. Investor Engagement: We seek to cultivate meaningful relationships with investors and provide them with a rewarding experience.

The Importance of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) cannot be overstated. Our entire funding strategy is intricately tied to these metrics.

The NDC has identified six key performance indicators that are central to our mission:

  1. Growth and Retention: measured by the number of founders, developers, and startups, focusing on their success and retention.
  2. On-chain value: evaluating valuable contracts executed on the blockchain.
  3. User engagement: we assess users’ weighted value through various factors, including fees paid on-chain, referrals, growth/retention, and the number of earners.
  4. NEAR Token Price: Relative to ETH.
  5. Total value locked (TVL): calculating the TVL on smart contracts.
  6. Influence and reach: we gauge our share of voice among top web3 figures.

Our initial steps on this transformative journey include:

  1. Getting clear on the responsibilities, goals, KPIs, and priorities for the NEAR Foundation, Aurora, DevHub, NDC, Pagoda, Proximity, and others.
  2. What is required to unlock the budget for the NDC to operate in the next six months.
  3. Budget distribution based on key metrics.
  4. Creating NDC Operations to implement this vision and track the metrics. Yurii O. is assigned as the Head of the NDC Operations body.

As we embark on this journey together, we invite every member of the NEAR community to join us in this exciting venture. Together, we will redefine governance, create opportunities, and shape the future of NEAR.
