Near Future Field Notes #8: Beating Disinformation

I joined Twitter in 2014 and immediately began pitching the design team on ways to fight back harassment, abuse, terrorism, and disinformation. Soon after, I became the lead designer on Twitter’s Abuse team, so I had a front row seat for the cat and mouse game Twitter was playing with bad actors and foreign entities. In 2018, I wrote an issue of this publication called What Twitter Can Learn From Overwatch, where I again tackled these topics.

I think it’s safe to say I’m pretty passionate about ways to beat disinformation. Over the last week I drew up some complex concepts and proposed some ways to address them in six small videos. Enjoy!

I’d love to chat with others who are interested in exploring this topic. Here’s a form to say hi and explore this space with me and others.

In fact, I might be carving off some time to work on turning these ideas into something tangible. After all, “real artists ship.” Stay tuned!
