A Complete Guide to Web3 Wallets, Part II: Top 5 NEAR Wallets
Storing your digital assets (i.e., tokens, stablecoins, and NFTs) using a wallet is the only way for Web3 users to truly ‘own’ their assets. This means that a seamless user experience (UX) is essential when interacting with wallets and one of the key deciding factors when it comes to onboarding the next billion users.
In the following three-part guide, we outline the different types of wallets that exist in the Web3 space, curate a hand-picked selection of some of the top wallets in the NEAR and Aurora ecosystem, and ultimately help you find the right wallet that suits your needs and preferences.
The mission of the NEAR Foundation has always been to foster a decentralised ecosystem that can cultivate and grow the components to a rich and vibrant Web3 experience. Up till now the Foundation built and maintained a wallet on wallet.near.org to onboard users efficiently and easily to the NEAR ecosystem. However, as NEAR continues to decentralise, the foundation recently announced that it is moving to the next step on its roadmap by transitioning wallet.near.org homepage to become a landing page for all NEAR compatible wallets operating in the ecosystem. This move is designed to give users more choice as they move around the Web3 space. And as part of the transition, conventional NEAR Wallet holders will be encouraged to migrate their wallet to a new provider. However, users shouldn’t let this worry them: the Foundation aims to publish a wide range of easy-to-follow tutorials and guides on how to do this over the coming weeks.
Moreover, users interested in exploring the alternative wallets available in the ecosystem will find that there are plenty of options available. In fact, there are currently more than 30 wallet providers compatible with NEAR. And you can easily go to AwesomeNEAR for an extensive list of wallets within the NEAR ecosystem. However, we will facilitate a large part of the process for you with this article, as we have narrowed down a selection of the top 5 NEAR Wallets in this second instalment to our Complete Guide to Web3 Wallets — all so that you don’t have to.

In the near future, MyNearWallet is looking to add more dApps and NFT support, alongside features like increased security and a more user-friendly user interface (UI). MyNearWallet is also developing iOS & Android versions, in addition to the desktop version.

About NEAR
NEAR is a sharded, proof-of-stake, layer one blockchain that is built for usability and scalability. NEAR combines the power of both PoS and sharding in a technology called Nightshade, making the chain infinitely scalable without compromising security and decentralisation.
About Aurora
Aurora is an EVM, (Ethereum Virtual Machine) created by the team at the NEAR Protocol, delivering a turn-key solution for developers to operate their apps on an Ethereum-compatible, high-throughput, scalable and future-safe platform, with low transaction costs for their users.
