NEARNAUTS: THE ‘HIDDEN GEM’ OF THE NEAR COMMUNITY
It’s safe to say that a lot has happened since our last interview with NEARNauts founder, Ted Murdoch, right before the NFT project launched last December. For one thing, the now distinctive NEARNauts figure (depicting a colourful ape in a space suit) has rapidly found its way into all corners of Twitter, steadily becoming an iconic silhouette, acting as one of the key profile pictures representing the NEAR community (alongside peers like Antisocial Ape Club and Secret Skellies Society.) With trading volume placing it at the top of the charts, while averaging only 4% of the 7777 NEARNauts listed, the NFT collection is coming in hot off an impressive week. This may have you wondering: what has been driving all the recent excitement behind NEARNauts? With plenty of major updates released and plenty more on their way, it became high-time we checked in on the project and showed our readers why it might very well still be underrated.
AstroMarket + AstroGen: Taking NFT Marketplaces and Launchpads to new heights
From its launch, NEARNAUTS has been established as one of the projects on NEAR to push the shift towards a more community-centric model. This can be seen in the project’s active and vibrant community (certain members even going as far as to offer to pay the 0.1 $NEAR base fee for any new users setting up a wallet on NEAR), its regular organised twitter spaces, high rate of engagement, and ‘value-accrual’ model; a unique model where NFT holders receive 50% of the revenue generated by the team’s own marketplace, AstroMarket, as well as their custom generative NFT launchpad AstroGen, where you can ‘launch your NFT collection on-demand with zero coding experience’. In this way, NEARNauts is always structured to act a complete loop that gives back to its community — a defining reason for its recent success.
NEARNauts to NEARCON: Mutants are Coming!
The NEARNauts team has announced that they will have their own booth at NEARCON 2022 in Lisbon, Portugal this September! From live product demos to free merch, the team plans to use this as an excellent opportunity for the major part of the NEAR community to get together and connect for the first time since the launch of NEARNauts.
However, the plans of the NEARNauts team extend further than this. Being as community oriented as they are, NEARNauts revealed on August 23rd, 2022, that their Serum NFT snapshot had been taken. This is a mysterious vial that will make NEARNauts holders eligible to mint a villainous looking mutant NEARNaut (pictured below) on the dates of the NEARCON event. Keep in mind, this is in addition to the alluring features outlined in the section above, and means you can expect to see a lot more spacefaring primates fill up your timeline as the weeks go by. This might also be a catalyst to see some solid price action in the upcoming weeks leading up to the event.
Note: any NEARNauts purchases or transfers from this moment forward will not be reflected in regards to airdrop allocation.
- NEARNauts is a fully community-driven NFT Project with exponential growth potential, the team and community behind the project are constantly building and proposing tangible solutions to grow the NEAR ecosystem and user base
- NEARNauts Serum NFT Airdrop and Snapshot happened earlier this week, making holders of the original collection eligible to mint a ‘mutant’ NFT on the dates of NEARCON
- Though not meant as investments, AstroMarket, the NEARNauts revenue sharing marketplace, will be launching shortly; and, together with AstroGen, the custom generative NEARNauts launchpad, these two project acts will act as the first two ‘value-accrual’ methods to close the loop and give back to the community
- Aside from Mutant NFTs, NEARNauts is excited to share many new upcoming updates at NEARCON — so, be sure to come if you haven’t already gotten your tickets!

NEARNauts is a truly community driven, randomly generated NFT PFP project powered by the NEAR Network. It uses a pool of traits of varying rarity percentages to generate the completed NFT’s, meaning these NFT’s will vary in rarity. To ensure fairness for all people who purchase NFT’s, they ensure verified randomness by VRF. A Verifiable Random Function (VRF) is a tuple function that takes an input (x) to generate a pseudo-random output and proof that the output was generated randomly.
NEARNauts are meant to be a fun Non-Fungible Token for you to collect. They are not meant as investments. Whether through primary or secondary channels, the art is what you receive. Any future benefits are ancillary to this purchase and not to be taken into consideration with your initial purchase. You agree that you are not relying on any future commitments by NEARNauts beyond the community treasury and participating in the NFT collection.
NEAR is a sharded, proof-of-stake, layer one blockchain built for both usability and scalability. NEAR harnesses the power of sharding in a technology called Nightshade, making the third-generation chain infinitely scalable without compromising security and decentralisation.
