The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced a suite of innovative digital initiatives designed to engage and reward cricket fans globally ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. These cutting-edge digital initiatives have been designed to ensure more fans in more countries than ever before can experience the action and thrill of the tournament. One of these initiatives, the ICC Fan Passport is powered by NEAR Protocol: Create a NEAR wallet within seconds and earn ‘runs’ by completing challenges like predicting outcomes in a game or creating a fantasy team.

Finn Bradshaw, ICC’s Head of Digital, said: “The ICC Digital department always aims to showcase what it’s like to be at our amazing events to the hundreds of millions of fans across the world who love our game but can’t be there in person. These series of initiatives will not only bring these experiences to more fans but reward those who engage most deeply.”

The ICC Fan Passport, is developed as part of the partnership between the NEAR Foundation and the ICC, and will reward fans for their digital activities. Whether predicting match outcomes or participating in integrations on Roblox, fans can earn points and unlock rewards, enhancing their T20 World Cup experience. Given the large size and popularity of cricket, the NEAR ecosystem is looking at potential exposure to a global audience of hundreds of millions of cricket fans who will have the opportunity to learn about NEAR Foundation’s mission of increasing the adoption of the Open Web, while getting the chance to interact with a Web3 use case built on the NEAR tech stack.

A go-to blockchain technology provider in the sporting world.

Last year The International Cricket Council (ICC) named the NEAR Foundation as its official blockchain partner until the end of 2025, promising to use Web 3.0 technology to deepen fan engagement and grow the game through new digital experiences. This is one of the biggest partnership announcements to date for NEAR Protocol and solidifies the protocol’s reputation as a go-to blockchain technology provider in the sporting world.

With its full stack of Web3 tools and easy onboarding, partners like the ICC can take advantage of one of the world’s most scalable, community-driven, and secure blockchains that deliver proven, best-in-class performance supporting any kind of Web3 strategy.

The future is NEAR.
