DIY! Creating your own Font

It sounds like a daunting task, but it’s easier to do than you might think. Here’s what you’ll need: a computer or way to access the internet (and honestly, how would you be reading this right now without either of those?),
a printer/scanner, a pen or pencil, and your writing hand! You can also do this digitally if you have Photoshop and a pen tablet. Using a mouse is okay too, it just won’t be as accurate.

To start, I found a website called Calligraphr.com which gives you a free template. Best of all, there’s no registration required when you use the quick test!

Then it’s a matter of printing out the template and filling in the blanks! You can use your own handwriting or design something new for each letter.

Here’s an example of what my handwriting looks like:

After you’ve completed the template, all that’s left to do is scan it back onto the computer and upload the file on the Calligraphr website. Sit back and watch the magic happen!

You can preview it live on the website, and then download it as a font that you can use in applications such as Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, and many more. This is such a fun and great tool to have. As a graphic designer, this can be used to customize fonts for branding, logos, and whatever else I put my mind to!
