The second PoD governance node vote ended on June 3rd and three adjustments related to node block generation and governance rules were approved (view the results of the poll). We are happy to announce that all the development has been completed and will be launched before the third PoD governance node vote which begins on June 28th. With these changes, new nodes are more likely to participate in the block generation as well as increasing the likelihood of proposals being approved due to a modified approval calculation.

The specific changes are as follows:

Proposal NIP302 — Modification to the Stability Index for Nebulas Nodes v2

In order to ensure the stability of the main network, the initial stability index S(i) of new nodes is “0.8.” After one successful cycle of block generation, it is possible for the nodes S(i) to reach a score of “1” which is the maximum level. This restriction will be removed after this upgrade thereby making it easier for newly added nodes to participate in block generation immediately (pending on staked NAX quantity).

Proposal NIP355 — Consensus Node Selection Adds Lucky Nodes

The current 21 consensus nodes are selected from 51 candidate nodes based on the consensus node selection algorithm. The algorithm is related to factors such as NAX voting quantity V(i), block stability index S(i) and random probability Random(). The revised selection method of the first 20 consensus nodes is unchanged however, after the upgrade the last consensus node will be selected randomly from the 31 candidate nodes that were not selected. This will encourage new nodes and nodes that rank lower to participate in PoD.

Proposal NIP293 — Node Governance: Remove “abstain” from calculations

With the current PoD governance voting guidelines, a proposal/project is approved if voted rating is greater than or equal to 67%.

  • The original approval rating was calculated as follows: Support / (Support + Abstain + Against).
  • The adjusted calculation of support rate is: Support / (Support + Abstain).

With the same participation rate, the new rules would make it easier for projects to be approved that were close to 67%.

The original PoD governance voting system requires a minimum number of participants which is at least 26 nodes and remains unchanged. For example, if a proposal was supported by only one node, with all the remaining Abstaining would result in an actual support rate of 100% however, the vote would not be approved due to insufficient effective votes.

Members of the community are welcome to submit proposals for PoD improvements on Go.Nebulas.io!

If your proposal is approved via the PoD governance vote, it will be implemented in a similar manner as the three proposals mentioned above. All community members can participate directly in the Nebulas ecosystem co-creation via community participation.
