Neco’s Core Values
“Values are like fingerprints. Nobodies are the same but you leave them all over everything you do.” — Elvis Presley
At Neco, company values are more than just lip service. As a business, every decision we make adheres to our seven core values.
Neco’s triple bottom line
Our value system can be broken down into three segments, reflecting our focus on the triple bottom line:
- Economical (blue)
- Ecological (green)
- Social (orange), ecological (green) and economical (blue)
There are also four overlapping areas.
Central to our organizational constitution
The Neco values model is at the heart of what we do, and why we do it. They are enshrined in the Neco Constitution and controlled by our Supervisory Board. The Board can veto decisions that don’t conform to the Neco Constitution, such as discriminatory decisions against minorities.
The Neco Constitution serves as Neco’s ‘law system’. The Constitution is created collectively with input from the Neco community, building on proven principles from legal sources such as the Bavarian Constitution (e.g. common welfare economy, equal opportunity participation, animal welfare, etc.), the German constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, international law, and religion-wide bids (i.e. the Golden Rule). In creating Neco’s values, our goal was to find the broadest possible “common denominator” of values that are supported by the biggest majority of people worldwide.
Core values
Neco is underpinned by the following core values:
1. Solidarity
Collaborating and helping each other has been a critical success factor in human evolution. Cooperation trumps competition because it creates harmony and gives us the power to make positive changes.
2. Transparency
Openness and accountability should be essential principles of any financial system. It promotes honesty and reliability within the community and reduces corruption, fraud, and other illegal activities.
3. Stability
Only a reliable, non-volatile currency enables users to save money and plan for the future. By eliminating inflation and speculation on a currency, the community can trust in its future value and use it as a stable means of exchange.
4. Equality
Equality means fairness, impartiality, and equal rights, regardless of race, gender, age, or nationality. Every member in a financial system should have a say on how money is created, distributed, and managed.
5. Diversity
Diversity is an essential requirement for collective intelligence. Embracing variety, heterogeneity, and differences amongst individuals and organizations provide opportunities for choice and personal freedom.
6. Sufficiency
The world has enough for everyone’s needs but not enough for human greed. We have to accept that unsustainable infinite growth is impossible on a planet with finite resources. For our planet to continue supporting us, we have to resources according to what we need. In addition to the ecological implications of living in excess, it also negatively affects our human psychology.
7. Sustainability
Economy and ecology should go hand-in-hand. Protecting the environment and conserving natural resources are of paramount importance to our future and the next generation.
Other values
Although they don’t form part of our Core Seven, Neco as an organization and as a team are also guided by the following values:
- Sufficiency
- Cooperation
- Freedom
- Generosity
- Honesty
- Political independence
