In an era where natural disasters are becoming bigger, more frequent, and unpredictable, innovative approaches to disaster response are increasingly important to help meet the needs of local communities. However, our current systems of disaster management remain outdated and collaboration across sectors is largely siloed.

In December, NeedsList is launching a webinar series, Reshaping Crisis Response. In this first webinar, Multi-Sector Approaches to Innovation in Disaster Response: Lessons Learned from 2019, NeedsList co-founders Natasha Freidus and Amanda Levinson will be leading a vital discussion with grassroots organizations, government, and the private sector on the importance of innovating disaster response.

With a focus on how different sectors can more effectively collaborate, we’ll be answering questions such as:

  • What are best practices and lessons learned from 2019 disasters?
  • What can we do to be more proactive instead of reactive?
  • How can we better address the gaps in communication and coordination?

The following thought leaders in crisis response will be joining the discussion:

  • Devorah West, Private Sector Engagement Advisor at USAID, a United States federal agency leading international development and humanitarian efforts to save lives, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance and help people progress beyond assistance.
  • Travis Evans, Pro Sales Manager at Lowe’s, a private company whose mission is delivering home improvement products with the best service and value; they are committed to taking the lead on donating to disaster relief and assisting firsthand with local cleanup efforts.
  • Belle Sweeney, Founder and Executive Director of The Schoolbox Project, a nonprofit organization that provides mobile, trauma-informed education, art and play to children displaced by crisis.
  • Chris Hensman, Program Officer at Rebuild Texas Fund, a collaborative project of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and the OneStar Foundation, working with communities to support recovery efforts throughout southeast Texas.

Join us for this important conversation!
