As we enter a new quarter of 2023, displacement is at an all-time high and the world is buffeted by crises, from earthquakes and extreme weather to conflict and war. According to a report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), 339 million people will need humanitarian aid in 2023.
As needs escalate, so does demand. But how do we meet it?

Ukraine
We launched our Ukraine platform in November to support an overwhelming aid response. Since then, dozens of local organisations have posted their needs and offers. The platform has facilitated the delivery of $500,686 in aid and organisations have offered $2.1M in support.
Here are just a few outstanding needs across Ukraine. Can your organisation help?
- 50 solar powered lights
- 150 units of toothpaste, wheat flour and sunflower oil

Syria & Türkiye
Following the high-magnitude earthquakes that resulted in the displacement of millions of people, NeedsList activated our software in Turkiye & Syria to accelerate response efforts. Working in collaboration with Field Ready, a local partner in the region, organisations have posted a variety of humanitarian needs on the platform.
Alongside needs already being met, some new postings include:
- 40 electric pneumatic drills and 50m extension cable reels
- 50 hand saws and rescue kits
- 100 pairs of rescue gloves, helmet head torches
- 10,000 thermos bottles
- 20,000 packs of menstrual products

Uganda and Kenya
The growing need for humanitarian aid in Kenya and Uganda is a stark reality. These two countries host the largest number of refugees on the continent, and are grappling with a host of challenges, including conflict, natural disasters, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, an influx of refugees from neighbouring countries such as South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo has further strained limited resources, with many refugees unable to access basic healthcare and education services.
To date, dozens of local organisations have joined the platform, posting hundreds of urgent needs, some of which are unmet. In particular, we are looking for partners to support with:
- 10 sewing machines
- 20 smartphones
- 500 jerricans
- 1000 agricultural hoes
- 1000 saucepans

Colombia
In recent years, Colombia has witnessed a range of humanitarian crises, including political instability, the inflow of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, and environmental issues. These crises have had far-reaching consequences on the well-being and livelihoods of people in both nations, underscoring the importance of effective humanitarian responses and support.
