Local tax preparers like Ms. Jackie Taylor, the owner of Neighborhood Tax Center on Beatties Ford Road, are making sure that their offices are set up as early as possible, being that January of 2024 is seemingly going by so fast. This is because, in the 2023 tax season, people did their tax returns in Charlotte a lot faster than previous years, according to a report from WCNC Local News.

Things This Local Tax Preparer Does in Preparation for the 2024 Charlotte Tax Season

I could tell from our first story (one where she informs the public of the correct items/paperwork they need to bring to their first tax appointment with her) that the experienced Tax Preparation Services Ms. Taylor provides at 2017 Beatties Ford Road was still going through its annual preliminary setup phase.

“So, what do you have to do to get your office ready for the big crowd that’s coming in early next month, Jackie?” I asked.

“Well, as you know, I had to turn a few things back on in the office, being that I wasn’t here in the off season,” she said. “Simple things, such as turning back on the internet and the phone. I also wanted to establish a better online presence this year as well, being that I hadn’t done a lot of that in the past!”

As her Business Editor, I informed her that she really wasn’t doing that bad when it came to at least having the minimum things showing her local tax center online, such as the fact that she did at least have a Google Business Profile and a Yelp Page.

The Yelp Page for Neighborhood Tax Center in Charlotte, NC is usable, but still being updated. Stay tuned!

“Jackie, you do have so many local regulars who need tax returns done in Charlotte and around Mecklenburg County every year,” I informed her. “But, if you want to reach larger clients, then yes, you’re definitely going to have to keep things updated with your tax services on the internet. But, that’s why I’m here. What else are you doing to set up things at Neighborhood Tax Center?”

“Other than making sure that the computer and software are up and running smoothly, I do a few routine text blasts and other notifications to my regular yearly tax return clients to make sure that they’re updated, and so they know when I will be regularly open for business, what my exact business hours will be this year, etc.”

North Carolina Income Taxes and IRS Updates for the 2024 Tax Season

I’m an Independent Business Editor, a self-employed person. And, folks like me (according to Money Magazine and many other sources) have to pay quarterly taxes. So, as a quick heads up, the deadlines for the 2024 tax year are April 15th, the 17th of June, September 16th, and, finally, the 15th of January 2025 (Glum and Tuttle, Money Magazine, Jan. 2024).

Aside from that, the IRS will be accepting applications just a couple of weeks from now. So, if you’re ready to do your tax returns in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Owner of the Neighborhood Tax Center and all of her interns and associates can’t wait to help you.

To give you guys some more sources, a recent report from CBS News tells the general public in the United States when the IRS says that they’ll start accepting tax returns. Normally, you’ll see a lot of these news reports come out at the beginning of January every year, and this one announced that approximately 128 million tax returns will be filed by individuals in 2024 (Picchi and Sherter, CBS News, Jan. 2024)

NBC News let the public know last week that the Internal Revenue Service will start processing 2023 tax returns on January 29th 2024, and that the IRS suggests that taxpayers don’t hesitate in filing early if at all possible (Wile, NBC News, Jan. 2024).

The IRS report from Washington that was released in early December of 2023 indicated that although most income tax returns will be processed in about three weeks, that “some returns may require additional review and may take longer to process if IRS systems detect a possible error, the return is missing information or there is suspected identity theft or fraud” (Internal Revenue Service, Dec. 2023).

“I attended a few classes to update myself on and learn the new tax laws,” said the motivated Tax Preparation Expert. “This year I did 18 hours.
