Tsunahachi Tempura Shinjuku was the first ever restaurant I visited in Japan back in March 2016. It’s just apt that towards the end of this trip, we pay another visit.

Located in one of the bylanes of neon-lit Shinjuku, it’s the consistency of the batter and that the tempura is not over-fried like in most other places, that makes this Tempura restaurant extra special. Should definitely be on your Tokyo list.

Two trips to Tokyo before this and I came to realise that the city’s filled with hundreds of yokocho, traditional-style alleyways lined with tightly packed bars and snack places. As a result, this time we just decided to explore Tokyo in an unplanned way! While walking around Shinjuku, we came across this Yakitori alley or Memory Lane, which is filled with a bunch of different closet sized restaurants. Find a restaurant that’s got a spot, and just sit back, sip on some great Japanese Sake and enjoy the meat being grilled right in front of you.

Grilled Oysters, Mackerel, Tuna, Chicken Mince Balls, Chicken Thigh, Heart, Liver and fifteen different kinds of Yakitori. This hole in the wall Yakitori place in Shinjuku had it all. A meal of epic proportions at one of the tiniest places we visited this time.
