Yakisoba, along with Yakitori & Takoyaki is one of the most popular street foods in Japan. Here you can see a traditional Osaka based Yakisoba with a fried egg, made with the special Yakisoba sauce which is based on oyster sauce. The name “yakisoba” translates to “fried buckwheat noodles” in Japanese.

Takoyaki, you’ll find this all over Japan

🐙 Takoyaki is a Japanese snack made of a wheat flour based batter and cooked in a special molded pan (you can see the pan in pic 2). It is typically filled with diced octopus, tempura scraps, pickled ginger, and green onion.

We found this Takoyaki outlet in one of the small laneways of the Harajuku area in Tokyo. The sauce in the photo is the spicy sauce (it’s called spicy sauce, but isn’t actually that spicy). You can choose from a number of different sauce options or just go for the original Takoyaki without any sauce.

Tokyo always begins with a visit to Ichiran! Not your regular Ramen joint, Ichiran is all about enjoying your ramen and soup in one of the restaurant’s unique Flavour Concentration Booths. You get to decide the richness of the broth, the spice level, the firmness of the noodles and the amount of garlic that goes into the broth! All of this with close to zero human contact.

Found a random Sushi conveyor belt restaurant while strolling around Tokyo’s Akihabara neighbourhood and tried this Pesto Prawn Sushi. You won’t find many Japanese chefs trying this combination, but as weird as it sounds, it was really good!
