Burger Love becomes first fast food chain to accept XEMS

Melbourne’s Burger Love is now allowing customers to pay for their favourite gourmet burger using the cryptocurrency XEMs from their South Melbourne branch.

In celebration of the launch they have created a special NEM Burger — a soft burger bun with noodle crusted fried chicken fillet, egg, mozzarella sticks, cheese, chipotle and barbeque sauce. You can purchase the burger for 23 XEMs or approximately AUD$16.

“Cryptocurrencies are the future of trade. It is a fascinating concept that our clientele is already on board with and we’re ready to stop watching from sidelines.

“We’re giving our customers the freedom to pay with a currency of their choice, which is telling of how we like to approach customer experience at Burger Love.”

XEM is the digital currency of the NEM blockchain platform. It is more environmentally friendly than other cryptocurrencies since there is no ‘mining’ involved and is secure as spammers can be shut down without taking down the entire network.

“Our partnership with Burger Love is an example of how XEMs and the NEM blockchain can be applied to everyday life.

“Australians are familiar with Bitcoin, but less so when it comes to other digital currencies like XEM. Associating with something people love, like food, will help integrate it into the economy more broadly and drive consumer engagement.”
