NEM | Blockchain APAC 2018
O n 29th August, NEM participated in Blockchain APAC, Australia’s largest blockchain enterprise event at Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. It featured a full day of 16 sessions with over 30+ speakers from industry and thought leaders to researchers and subject experts.
It was an insightful day with lots of panel discussions and talks of how blockchain can fundamentally transform different industries with the Victorian Government, large corporates and banks now taking more notice of blockchain technology and are open to ideas and innovation.
It was clear that people are still wary that blockchain technology is still in the early stages of development but the potential is huge in having trustless consensus without a central authority. There were talks of the world’s first distributed blockchain stock market and the use of blockchain for identity verification with an increase of identity theft costing $1.1B and counting a year.
To succeed we must: 1. Learn 2. Collaborate 3. Lead

NEM held a session at BlockchainAPAC on ‘NEM Blockchain- Building On An Enterprise Blockchain’. Expansion Director, Jason Lee, joined Josh Rowe- Head of Technology Business Management at ANZ to give an introduction to the NEM Blockchain and talk about the ease of building on the the Platform using API calls (plug and play). NEM’s technology is open source and user friendly which makes it cost efficient and an ideal solution for blockchain adoption.
We had two of our use cases, CopyrightBank and RocketShoes, present their projects in front of the audience and talk about how they are using NEM and answer any questions. Both projects are local Melbourne start ups and are the successful recipients of the NEM Community Fund, receiving money to help kickstart their project.
