Last week, NEM Hong Kong held a 101 meetup at Token News. It’s not the first time we have run a meetup there with Wario and the team; the venue is perfect for around 50 attendees and it’s well located in Central.
Jason Lee, NEM Australasia Director of Partnerships & Strategic Alliances was there supporting NEM Hong Kong Leader, Ricardo Medrano. Both NEM members explained why more companies are using NEM blockchain technology. They also showcased a variety of real use cases to the audience — companies who are already using NEM Blockchain in their products such as PundiX, Origins, Loyalcoin ,Tutellus, LuxTag, etc.
The event ended with a presentation by Jeffery Liu, Co-founder of the NEM-based project Xarbon.
Xarbon is the world’s first digital carbon asset that is fully reserved 1 to 1 against traditional carbon sinks and instruments held by the company. These carbon instruments are registrable and can be issued to international governmental organisations like the United Nations in return for sustainability projects the Xarbon team conducts globally.
As part of his presentation, Jeffery explained why they chose to use NEM ahead of other blockchains to create their Digital Carbon Assets. It’s great to see NEM being used for a use case focused on the environment and sustainability!
During the Q & A, we talked with many of the different attendees, who each took a souvenir NEM shirt. Some developers in the audience also asked some great questions about the NEM SDK and developer guidelines. There were also some other interesting discussions with members of the audience interested in NEM — hopefully we can share more about this soon!
