NEO DevCon 2019 II |NEO will be the most favorable platform to build blockchain applications
NEO DevCon ended a month ago, but there’s still a lively discussion going on in the community about NEO DevCon 2019.
In the previous report on NEO DevCon2019, we reviewed the detailed NEO 3.0 scheme proposed by co-founder Erik Zhang. NEO 3.0 aims to support adoption by large-scale commercial applications. Similarly, Da Hongfei, another co-founder, also made a comprehensive analysis of NEO’s future on the commercial side.
The Promise of Smart Economy
In his keynote about “The Promise of Smart Economy”, Da Hongfei began with him speaking about his experience with Bitcoin and then explained NEO’s vision for future development.
Although majoring in technical English that is not directly related to the computer in college, Da Hongfei was obsessed with computer and Internet. He once wrote programs to unlock hard disk locks of school computers and instead add disk locks. When he first accessed to the Internet, he came across a blog related to economics, which let him understand the ideas of various economic schools. Since then, he has kept the same passion for both computer science and economics.
Years later, Bitcoin, the combination of his two hobbies, attracted his attention. After a series of events in the early development of Bitcoin, Da Hongfei realized that it might be a good application scenario to use blockchains for crowdfunding, which was also the very first design idea of NEO. After meeting the right people, Da Hongfei and Erik Zhang started the NEO project.
In more than four years since its establishment, NEO’s growth has been obvious to all, and the development law of human economic system also tells us that we are entering the era of smart economy. An important feature of the smart economy is that everything is programmable, and distributed systems enhance the security for this kind of programming. Whilst NEO, as one of the outstanding projects of blockchain technology, is promoting the realization of the smart economy, along with Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, cloud computing, and Virtual Reality.

Beyond technology, NEO’s governance in the future will be more transparent and formal. Currently, the NEO Foundation is preparing for the financial report, trying to expose the overall financial situation to the community as soon as possible. But it can be confirmed that NEO’s current financial situation is quite healthy and stable.
In order to drive NEO on a global scale, besides the NGD Shanghai Office and NGC, Da also announced a new NGD base in Seattle. The base will be led by two former Microsoft executives, John deVadoss and Huang Peng, who have participated in .Net related work at an early stage. John ever served as a manager of Microsoft’s .NET team, and also oversaw the birth of the Microsoft Digital business and its growth from $0 to $500 million.
Last year on DevCon in San Francisco, Da announced NEO’s mission of “To make NEO the number one blockchain by 2020.” This year Da repositioned this goal. Number one does not mean to be focused on the market cap or the volume, but to make it the most favorable platform to build applications on top of it by providing best performance, diversified ecosystem and also compliant solutions.
Towards the end of the keynote, Da said that people are always asking what makes NEO different, and he responded with a sentence:
Pure realists have difficulty looking up at the stars
Pure idealists cannot stand on the present
Only realistic idealists can breed the times
And NEO is the one.
