2020 was the year DeFi exploded. A plethora of projects rapidly developed and took off on the Ethereum network — however, Ethereum’s high GAS fees and performance ceiling rapidly resulted in a strong spillover effect. At the same time, Binance Smart Chain — an Ethereum compatible public chain — quickly captured a large number of projects thanks to its low GAS fees and easily accessible development environment. As an Ethereum compatible chain, BSC seemed to offer the best of both worlds.

But does this solution really represent the pinnacle of a public chain’s potential? From our perspective, no. This approach…

After 5 Preview versions, the first release version of Neo N3 (Neo N3 RC1) has been released and its corresponding TestNet is now up and running.

The most significant upgrade in this version is the integration of NeoFS system into the Oracle module. Numerous improvements and fixes have also been applied in this version for State Root service, Policy native contract, opcodes and etc.

The comprehensive list of improvements and optimizations in this version:

NeoFS API Completion & Integration into Oracle

neofs-api-csharp is now completed and has been integrated into the Oracle plugin in this version. The NeoFS master nodes in this TestNet are now Neo-go nodes…

After two and a half years of development, the next evolution of Neo is on our doorstep. Countless hours of planning and programming by our brilliant developer community have resulted in a platform that we can all be immensely proud of — one that we feel competitors will find difficult to match in many respects.

As we move forward into this future, we are proud to reveal the new brand identity for Neo’s latest version, N3.

Introducing N3

Neo 3.0 was first announced by Erik Zhang in July of 2018. It promised many things, such as a new architecture, native contracts, and…

Oct marks the 4th Anniversary of Neo MainNet, signifacnt progress in Neo3 development and Neo’s DeFi ecosystem.

October marked the four year anniversary of the Neo MainNet launch. While the Neo community took a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, October’s focus was very much on looking forward.

The next milestone on the Neo calendar is Neo3 Preview4, which is planned to be the final Neo3 preview version before we reach TestNet. …

Four Years of Neo MainNet — Reflections and What’s Next

Dear Neo community members,

2020 has been a momentous year on various levels — from the team to the Neo community as well as the greater blockchain space. As Neo celebrates the fourth anniversary of its MainNet launch, we would like to thank everyone for their passion and support for the entire Neo ecosystem. Our community has always been at the center of Neo’s mission, and we are grateful for everyone’s enthusiasm and understanding this past year.

As we look back upon the last four years, it is incredibly striking just how rapidly the blockchain space has shifted and evolved…

Without a doubt, Flamingo Finance dominated the headlines in September, bringing many new people into the Neo ecosystem. Flamingo’s overarching goal is to bring the “missing pieces” of DeFi to the Neo blockchain. Its full feature set is planned to include a cross-chain asset gateway, automated market making-based swaps, synthetic stablecoins, and AMM-based perpetual trading contracts.

Flamingo officially launched on September 23rd with Flamincome and Wrapper. Flamincome allows users to stake wETH, USDT, wBTC, and other ERC-20 tokens to generate a yield on the Ethereum network. …

The launch of the Neo N3 MainNet is gradually approaching after the release of multiple TestNet versions. One of the most prominent changes in Neo N3 is an entirely revamped governance model, which will push Neo towards a more decentralized future.

NEO token holders will be empowered to vote on a 21 member Neo Council, of which the top seven will also become Consensus Nodes. The Neo Council will be responsible for maintaining the health of the Neo network, with rights to adjust critical blockchain parameters such as fees.

In order to ensure the stability of the Neo N3 MainNet…

Neo N3 RC3 has been released on 2021/05/25 and the corresponding TestNet has been set up on 2021/05/30. This update includes some syscalls for native contracts, alongside other improvements and optimizations.

NGD has performed the TestNet upgrade from 06:00 to 09:00AM GMT, 2021/05/30.

The comprehensive list of improvements and optimizations in this version:

Added Base58CheckEncode and Base58CheckDecode into StdLib

Two encoding-decoding-related syscalls, Base58CheckEncode and Base58CheckDecode are added to StdLib native contract. It would be helpful to include Base58CheckEncode and Base58CheckDecode so that contracts could convert between scripthashes and addresses for Neo Legacy and Neo N3 (and other chains that also use Base58Check addresses).

Added GetAccountState into NeoToken native contract

The syscall GetAccountState is added to NeoToken native contract, to get the state of specified account, including account balance, voting, etc.

Other improvements and optimizations

  • Added slot index to debug info
  • Added unvote function to Neo-CLI

Protocol Development

Neo3 Progress

Over the past two months, the Neo core development team concentrated its efforts on the N3 RC2 and RC3 versions, applying improvements and fixes uncovered after the initial RC1 release. These updates bring a number of improvements and optimizations to the protocol, and adds a new C# smart contract compiler. RC2 and RC3 were deployed on the TestNet on May 18 and June 1 respectively, allowing developers to familiarize themselves with the latest changes.

On the other hand, NGD is also working on…
