Neon loves to learn.

At Neon, we love to learn. We’re always working to understand new and better ways to do what we do. One way we encourage learning and exploration is through team field trips. Our most recent field trip to the Academy of Sciences’ weekly Nightlife event here in San Francisco was a perfect example of that. It combined fun, learning, surprises, tasty food, and really striking images. We were even lucky enough to see a Giant Pacific Octopus and walk through a swarm of Blue Morpho butterflies.

Learning is a core part of our culture at Neon. This is evident through our frequent field trips to places like the Academy of Sciences, and also through our education & experimentation budget. This budget is a small amount of money that each member of the Neon team can use for anything that will encourage them to explore new skills and give them the space and the spark to innovate.

Almost as fun as having the resources to learn and innovate is having the opportunity to see what our team members choose to pursue with this resource. For example, since we started this program a year ago, Deb used her budget for a hand lettering class, while Sophie put hers towards a Go Pro, and I attended a panel discussion on social good.

Deb used her education budget for a hand-lettering typography class.

We’re always looking for new ways to encourage learning and innovation at Neon, and would love to hear about your ideas and experiences creating space for learning. Comment here or tweet @neonlab to share!
