The Evolution Of Rebecca Minkoff
Who: Rebecca Minkoff
What: Evolution of her collections and the drastic change in style from 2010 to 2016
Where: Runway shows gathered from different seasons of each year from the last six years
Why: Killer designs, and we all know her signature 5-zip cross body bag, which this reporter found out was from her original collection and has managed to remain in style as a classic look.
What’s so amazing about Minkoff? She worked from the ground up. Born and raised in San Diego, Minkoff decided to jet off to New York after high school graduation to pursue a career as a fashion designer. In 2001, she launched her first small line. From there, she went on to create a must-have “I Love New York” graphic tee, then took a leap of faith and worked her way into handbags. Each of her bags have a creative name, such as the “Morning After Bag,” sassy and fun. People have been raving over Minkoff’s designs, and in 2010 she was awarded a place in the Council of Fashion Designers of America!
Rebecca Minkoff is currently married with two children, her brother is the CEO of her multi-million dollar handbag and clothing line; she supports multiple philanthropies with her work, and her collections appear in major magazines and Fashion Weeks. (Read more on her biography)
Now let’s breakdown her ready-to-wear collections.
Fall/Winter 2010: Most casual (of the six collections being reviewed), all the models sporting black opaque tights, coats, black suede stiletto booties, and purses in either a deep violet, oxblood, or grey.
Spring/Summer 2011: Muted neutral tones of khaki, blush, taupe, and silver. More business-look, with a couple structured bags, some blazers and tailored clothing.
Fall/Winter 2012: This is where Minkoff spices things up and shows up on a more prominent runway in sequins, bright jade, purple, and red knits, leather, and snakeskin bags.
Spring/Summer 2013: Flared white jeans with floral detailing on the hem light up this spring collection, along with bright colored clutches and a few light jumpers.
Fall/Winter 2014: BANG. Leather jackets, feather-tassel booties, and some jewel-toned coats and bags.
Spring/Summer 2015: Somewhat expected, but like, we’re still into it. Classic pastel colors for Spring with some flouncy sundresses and oversized sun hats.
Fall/Winter 2015: This reporter is absolutely in LOVE with this collection. The patterned tights, fringe thigh-high boots, leather, thick knits, mini skirts, and guitar-strap cross body bags are too much to handle. This fall collection is hot hot hot, and shows a major change in Rebecca Minkoff’s look with a new type of confident edginess.
Spring/Summer 2016: Knee-high gladiator sandals, Pastel suede fringe, and angelic silver and white ensembles are eye-catching and classy for next Spring’s look!
