Get clothed for construction — Moschino’s Spring and Summer 2016 collection at Milan Fashion Week will stop traffic in the best way. This show was absolutely outrageous, with loud and crazy designs that entertained the audience. Staying true to Moschino fashion, Creative Director Jeremy Scott is known for his wild runway looks and bold dedication to his collection themes. (Exhibit A; Exhibit B; I know, I know…Moschino ROCKS).

Let’s start with the set. Moschino’s runway was designed as a street with two huge metal frames acting as traffic lights, and clever signs scattered around the perimeter of the road, such as “Model Xing,” “Dangerous Couture Ahead,” “Wrong Way,” etc. Not impressed yet? The dark room illuminated as the first model hit the street in a neon yellow and orange show-stopping power suit.

It’s only starting from there. Models come tearing down the runway with traffic cone hats, purses, and stylized dresses managing to look fierce and fabulous (I never thought I would admit liking an outfit inspired by a traffic cone). Orange thick-netted dresses to match a construction worker’s vest, hard-helmets with black netting to give them a chic edge, and purses shaped like street signs followed in quick pursuit. This reporter’s personal favorites of the collection were the bold, graphic-printed dresses. Scott perfected the play on words in fashion with his use of “Caution, Open Trench” on the back of a trench coat and “SHOP” as a stop sign written across the front of a dress.

As the show continued, the collection transitioned into an old-school car wash scene, with comic-themed graphics and luminescent fabrics. The new focus turned toward the following “Brand New Look.”

Going with the carwash theme, the pieces appeared to be cleaning supply-inspired designs — more graphic prints, fun accessories, and a lot of color-blocked fringe was involved.

So, what does this all mean?

For runway shows, designers show exaggerated looks of the type of styles they are forecasting for the next season. Moschino is forecasting its Spring and Summer 2016 clothing that will be out in stores to include a lot of bright neon colors, fringe, and loud graphic prints. Not only is he forecasting a visible style, but also a mental state for woman to be in. He is creating a scene for women empowerment with these designs that resemble strong workers; the cleaning supplies representing him washing away the old stereotype of a submissive woman, and building up a new fierce and strong female attitude.

Be bold and strong, it’s fashion-forward and in your forecast.
