Remembering the night of the ‘Jael Mary’

After completing the improbable, three-touchdown comeback against USC last season, ASU quarterback Mike Bercovici collapsed to the ground because of dehydration. Simultaneously, most of the USC fans at the game collapsed because of disappointment.

In one of the most crushing losses in recent memory, Bercovici threw for over 500 yards and 5 touchdowns, in a backup role for injured starter Taylor Kelly. The Sun Devil fans stormed the field, while the Trojan fans took the long walk of shame back to campus.

Because it was such a memorable moment, I went around campus and asked USC students where they were and how they felt during the Hail Mary that lost USC the game.

The Trojans are looking for redemption this year, and will have plenty of motivation, coming off a loss at home against Stanford. With no margin for error if the Trojans want to reach their lofty preseason goals, they should come out focused and ready to win against the Sun Devils on Saturday.
