NEORT++(Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), the physical gallery of digital art platform NEORT is proud to announce its first solo exhibition, “Tiny Sketches” by Shunsuke Takawo, a Creative Coder.

The compilation of 7 years of Daily Coding

Takawo started a daily activity on January 1, 2015, to write a shortcode called a “sketch” every day.
In March 2019, he started posting these sketches via Twitter and OpenProcessing and called “Daily Coding.”
Takawo’s daily coding activities began as private activities, but the objectives and meaning changed dramatically as he interacted with people through published codes and graphics…
From private training, the activity’s primary purpose, in the beginning, Takawo gradually discovered the nature of codes as a commons, in which the ideas and techniques of other people were mixed in with his own codes.

At the same time, Takawo rediscovered the cultural practices deeply rooted in his day-to-day life and regional and local customs and focused on the possibility of expression through personal/poetic codes that would tie this side and the beyond of the display to the codes.
Generativemasks.” his NFT art project that gained worldwide recognition with its release in August 2021, was one of the fruition of his practice and transformation of “Daily Coding.”

Generativemasks Created by Shunsuke Takawo

Takawo’s daily coding is a consistent quest for an alternative and open method of artistic expression through code that deviates from the mainstream of generative art, where functionality and objectivity are expected in software development and evaluated through advanced algorithms and computation.
And even now, it continues as routine practice on SNS by Takawo and other artists sharing common values with him.
In this exhibition, Takawo has selected 240 selected sketches from his daily coding that exceeds 1,500, up to the latest works, including his beginning, and displays high-quality prints.

NFT Works on Sale

In addition to the above, NFT art derived from Daily Coding will be released together with this exhibition.
NFT consists of 4 new works (60 editions each) created with the exhibition available for sale.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to visit the exhibition to see a small but elegant piece of Takawo’s artistic expression in code, which is as freely and vigorously expressed as a poem.

WHY EXHIBIT NEORT++?

The growth of the Internet gives us more and more opportunities to encounter new types of artworks and digital technologies. However, the experience of viewing these artworks is still mostly limited to the PC screen or the smartphones.

Even the NFT, which has made a significant impact in 2021 and contributes to the support of artists’ activities, has not solved this problem.
And while the nearer the relationship between Art and digital technology, art galleries that focus exclusively on these fields are still rare worldwide, never enough of them.

NEORT++, in consideration of the current situation, hopes to open up new artistic possibilities for the future of Art by specializing in highly innovative artworks that use digital media/technology and providing opportunities to discuss the experience of viewing these artworks together with artists and visitors.
