NEORT++’s first organized exhibition “MOMENT”

The digital art platform NEORT++ is proud to announce the “MOMENT” exhibition to consider the viewing experience of NFT artworks.
The first exhibition of the memorial artwork is a collaboration between artist Ayumu Nagamatsu, Hirai, and NEORT++.

In 2021, NFT using blockchain technology has become a big topic of discussion, and many artists have been given the opportunity to be active in this field.
However, there are many issues with digital data, such as the lack of a sense of ownership and viewing experience for digital data.

The artwork “MOMENT” presented in this exhibition is a work that takes advantage of the characteristics of NFT to consider the viewing experience.
The motif of the work is “ Cherry blossom (Sakura)” symbolizing spring, and it consists of flowers from the NFT collection with 1,000 editions and a cherry blossom tree that is a combination of those flowers.
Through programming, every one of the 1,000 editions becomes a unique piece of art, which will be sold as NFT and will have 1, thousand owners.
Another artwork, the cherry blossom tree, will be in full bloom when 1,000 owners are born, blooming in a real-time manner as each NFT is owned.
Ownership of the multiple editions of the NFT is more than just owning individual artworks; it is also creating a link between the owners of the entire collection.
In other words, the act of buying an NFT in this work means that all of the owners are together growing a digital cherry blossom tree and making it reach its full bloom.

NFT cherry blossom blooms only during the springtime.

Also, this exhibition’s Cherry blossom tree can be browsed by everyone online, but “NFT cherry blossom” blooms only during the springtime, which is also the period of the exhibition.
This is an experiment to make the digital artworks reflect the ephemeral nature of cherry blossom and the significance of the limited time of the exhibition in a physical space.
We hope that it will inspire viewers to think about the “value of the experience in the current moment”, which tends to be diluted by the digital nature of the artwork.

Ayumu Nagamatsu and Hirai, both artists participating in the creation, both make full use of programming and are skilled in the creation of 3DCG works.
Ayumu created each flower, while Hirai created the entire scene, including the Cherry blossom tree.
A typical Japanese motif of the Cherry blossom is expressed through the use of light colors and flat composition without shadows, inspired by Ukiyo-e prints, and the three-dimensionality of 3DCG is dared suppressed to create a painting-like artwork.

This exhibition is a valuable opportunity to view the artworks simultaneously both online and offline, utilizing the newest technology of NFT and 3DCG with real-time rendering.
Through this exhibition, we hope that viewers will be able to experience the artworks created using NFT and contemplate the possibilities of digital art.

NEORT++ will officially open on April 1, 2022 as an experimental exhibition space for digital art. MOMENT is a work created for this opening. It will remain with the gallery for years and decades to come.
