I recently graduated from IIT Guwahati in the 24th convocation ceremony with a B.Tech degree in Mathematics & Computing. Since I have waited for nearly 4 years 😂 to write this story, I sincerely hope you enjoy it.

A small side note before we begin, though, I’ll not talk about 2 things here — my relationships and my achievements. The former is way too personal, and the latter is on Linkedin. 🙃

First year

  1. Came here after making a little mess up in my JEE Advanced Paper 2, and that landed me in Mechanical Engineering 🦾⚙️
  2. Halfway into the first semester, I realized that my stream’s core was “a road not taken,” and I had to upgrade to a different branch. 😥
  3. Tried a little coding — I loved it.
  4. I did well in a few MA 101 tests and decided to go for M&C. I had no idea MA 101 was going to kill me in the later half of that year. 😂
  5. Met a group of passionate, hard-working, and amazing friends. We called ourselves the Pandavas.
  6. Realized that my voice had recovered the damages of puberty and started singing again! Rekindled my passion for writing. Performed and won awards in Manthan
  7. Joined Technothlon as an online team member. Came across my best friend in the process (I had no idea then, though). 😇

Second Year

  1. Did a branch change to Mathematics and Computing. So many new people — had a hard time. Also, no one liked a branch changer (just yet) 😂
  2. Continued in Technothlon as an Online lead. Struggled and learned a lot.
  3. Realized that I sucked at pure mathematics subjects — got depressed. Started questioning life decisions. Had suicidal thoughts! 😰
  4. Midway into the 4th semester, I realized that I did much better in CS and Finance subjects. Used this to my advantage.
  5. Made a tough decision of dropping off from Technothlon following repeated arguments and misunderstandings.
  6. Recovered from depression (massive shoutout to some of my friends ❤️). Realized that I had a knack for software engineering. Started working with several organizations and learning tons of stuff in that direction.

Third year

  1. Covid hit! I succumbed to cheating my way through a few exams since everyone else was doing the same. 😂
  2. Got much more comfortable with people from M&C. I Realised that this was one fantastic batch of people. Made a few great friends along the way.
  3. Started freelancing and contributing to open source. A whole new world!
  4. Getting into MLH Fellowship (Batch 01) was a life-changing experience. Met so many different people, learned about the industry. All this helped me later with my internship at Oracle.
  5. Got into SWC around this time as the Application Development head. Brought in Flutter tech stack to the team. Later this would replace the native Android culture. Came across some awesome juniors. 🤗

Fourth year

  1. Started with an FTE offer from Oracle — so decided to go out of my shell and find out something I really loved. Something that would fill my 5–9.
  2. Realized that content creation was that thing! Started by writing a few blogs on Medium, and people seemed to love it. My MLH blog was trending on Google 😂
  3. Kept working, helping, and mentoring people. Took an interest in finance around this time. The stock market looked particularly interesting! 📈
  4. Went on my first ever college trip to Sikkim. It was adventure overloaded.
  5. Stayed away from all kinds of substance abuse — just did not like the idea.
  6. The campus opened next. I did well in the final exams. Got a near 9 CPI at the end. Graduated happily with 0 regrets and a ton of maturity!

Decided to sit at my desk, open my MacBook, and write a blog on Medium yet again documenting my 4 years of IIT life. 🙃

So in the end, here is the lesson I got —

.

.

.

Common you still reading this? 😂 There is no lesson here. It’s not a fairy tale. It’s just life ❤️

As always! Happy Living! 😇
