Online learning is an effective learning method conducted over the web. For the most part is conducted through a learning administration framework, in which understudies can share their academic ideas and improve their performances, additionally online learning has allowed communicating with fellow students and course instructors very easily, in case of unexpected circumstances.

Due to the unexpected situation created by COVID-19, online learning has become more popular these days. It has provided an advantage to share videos, presentations, lecture notes, and academic materials among the participants effectively during this time. This online learning method has given a chance to rebuild the educational system that collapsed by this COVID-19 crisis.

On contrary, on this online learning, there are strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that its stakeholders will face. SWOT Analysis is the way of identifying them.

This study helps to understand the effectiveness, success, correctness and new ideas of a task. Thereby this will help in updating the online learning system and develop it effectively to help the users. Two parties involved in online learning.

SWOT Analysis of online learning will help to strengthen the communication between these two parties. The expansion of internet facilities in the country can be identified by this analysis and also the areas where it needs to be developed. New ideas of stakeholders can be obtained by this analysis. This will provide the information needed to create a technological revival in the education system of the country and identify the current controversy. For these reasons, SWOT analysis of online learning is an important procedure these days.

We can determine the SWOT of online learning from different perspectives. Not only students some instructors also enrolled in this case. First, we are going to identify the SWOT analysis of students in schools, universities, and other educational institutes. All this information was gathered by asking student’s responses and ideas directly to improve the reliability of the points.

Strengths

  • This is good rather than staying home without studying.
  • The lecturers give their maximum support to us during the lectures.
  • Do not want to separate from siblings and to go to hostels.
  • Very useful for having recordings of the online lectures.
  • No data cost for students in the universities while in the online classroom.
  • All the students have a chance to ask questions directly.

Weaknesses

  • The lectures are boring when compared to face-to-face lectures.
  • Difficult to understand mathematical and advanced parts.
  • Lack of doing group activities.
  • All the students in the classroom do not join the online lecture.
  • Learning with friends in a face-to-face classroom is more fun.
  • Studying in a hostel is more relaxed than at home.

Opportunities

  • By online lecturing, you know how to use new online learning software.
  • Less cost on clothing and do not want to bother about external appearance.
  • Students’ fear of asking questions from the lecturer can’t be seen in the online classroom.
  • Easy to balance the time with other works.

Threats

  • For some students there are not enough signals to join the video, only they can hear the voice.
  • Difficult to connect on time to the lectures because of the signal problems.
  • The voice of the lecturer is not clear due to signal problems, therefore, cannot hear the lectures properly.
  • Lack of having interactions with friends and lecturers.
  • Some students have economic problems therefore they cannot join the online learning process.
  • Lack of knowledge of using the internet and technology.

Next, we will identify the SWOT of online learning from the instructors’ perspective. All of these facts were taken by asking from university lecturers, school teachers, and other instructors of educational institutes.

Strengths

  • This is good rather than staying home without teaching.
  • Being able to do time management.
  • Being able to maintain a good mindset.
  • Decreased physical activity.
  • For university lecturers and many instructors, data cost is borne by the institute.

Weaknesses

  • Teaching is boring when compared to face-to-face in-classroom teaching.
  • Difficult to teach mathematical and advanced parts.
  • Cannot assign group activities.
  • Teaching face-to-face in the classroom is more satisfying.
  • Cannot understand the behavior of the student well.
  • It is very difficult for teachers and students to maintain the relationship.
  • It is monotonous.
  • Inability to teach dramatically.
  • It is very difficult to help students who are weak in learning.
  • Lack of the chance to correct students’ mistakes.
  • It is not practical (being artificial).

Opportunities

  • By online teaching teachers get knowledge on how to use new online teaching software using the new technology
  • It is not necessary to consider external appearance.
  • Save time, labor, and money while going on the job
  • No disturbances in the online classroom like as in a traditional classroom.
  • Acquiring good knowledge on how to use the internet and technology for teaching.

Threats

  • Not enough signal.
  • Difficult to connect on time to the online classroom because of the signal problems.
  • Have to spend extra money on data.
  • Lack of knowledge of using the internet and technology.
