Recently, “Smart British GB” invited a team of experts to predict our possible innovations in smart homes, including the use of technologies that have been put into production or maybe realized within 10 years. They require these technologies to be environmentally friendly from the kettle in the kitchen to the wind power generation across the street. They all believe that our home will be better for the planet in 2030.

They mentioned a lot of imagination about the future of the home and also released a CGI video to show what the future home will look like. For example, bed sheets can change the temperature according to different personal preferences and needs, so that you will never sweat and sleep in the heatwave; smart cushions and furniture, using augmented reality technology can change the color, material, and texture. The efficient lighting of the hydroponic indoor garden allows us to have fresh vegetables to harvest in our kitchen. This small garden may only take up as much space as a closet or a bookshelf.

In addition, the bathroom in the future can track your health data in real-time; the electric car charging station in the community will be able to charge the electric cars of community members and allow the neighborhood to carpool, providing an alternative to public transportation solutions. If you want to add new things at home but worry about the lack of space, in the future, artificial intelligence furniture may be able to change its shape and solve your troubles.

TV host Carol Wardman, actor Robert Llewellyn, and futurist Dr. Ian Pearson shared their views on the future of environmentally friendly homes.

Dr. Pearson said: “Making houses greener certainly does not mean making them low-tech. With smart electronic homes, we can completely redecorate our houses without having to buy new fixtures or accessories. On the contrary, we will use AR technology to make smart furniture with reconfigurable materials. Our home will use renewable energy, stored in-home batteries, and will make our lives easier.”

“Smart British GB” conducted a survey of 2,000 British adults. This research was commissioned to reveal the potential for innovation in engineering and construction, which can continue to change the way of life in the future. The survey found that 70% of people are willing to live in a more environmentally friendly home, and 83% said they are interested in new technologies that can help them achieve this goal. However, 20% of people don’t know what to do, and more than two-thirds think it’s too expensive.

Artificial intelligence technology

A series of technological developments will promote smart home technology far beyond the current level. For example, the innovation of artificial intelligence has subverted almost everything in our lives, including our homes. You may already be using some kind of AI voice assistant to get the latest news or weather forecast every morning.

But in the future smart home, these AI platforms can serve as the brains of the entire home: learning the needs of users, coordinating various devices, and so on. For example, the Internet of Things company Crestron is developing software that can track people’s habits, such as what music they want to hear in the morning, or what brightness they want the lights to be at a certain time of the day. Then, once it has mastered users' habits, it will automatically play the correct playlist or dim the lights.

The robot dog Aibo can accompany us like a pet

Robots will also play a role in future smart homes. Smart vacuum cleaners like iRobot’s Roomba are already well developed, while Aibo, a robot dog designed for children, shows how they can accompany us like pets.

As for the future? Robotic furniture company Ori Living is working with IKEA to re-arrange it according to your needs, such as moving the bed away when you need a desk or hiding the closet during meals.

Design company Design3 recently demonstrated a smart home robot concept-CARL. This robot can slowly roll around your home, activate its telescopic camera and sensors to detect intruders, notify you of any harmful emissions, or pay close attention to your pet.

Computer graphics company Nvidia is developing an intelligent robotic arm that can act as the owner’s assistant chef, from cutting vegetables and slicing to cleaning the kitchen; it is especially useful for busy parents or disabled users.

The demand for data labeling continues to increase

From the perspective of the research direction of artificial intelligence technology, whether in the field of traditional machine learning or deep learning, supervised learning based on training data is still a major model training method. Especially in the field of deep learning, more labeled data is needed to improve the effectiveness of the model.

At present, the demand for the highest quality AI training data in various industries is urgent. AI is implemented in various fields, such as education, law, intelligent driving, banking, and finance, etc. Each field has requirements for subdivision and specialization.

Among them, in particular, traditional enterprises with intelligent transformation and technology enterprises need the assistance of training data service providers with rich project experience to help sort out the data labeling instruction and to obtain more suitable data. The use of high-quality data in special scenarios reduces the research and development cycle, accelerates the implementation process, and helps enterprises to make faster and better intelligent transformations.

Conversational AI agents are built with large-scale manually annotated data. However, large-scale manual annotation is usually expensive and time-consuming. Thus, abundant and useful datasets are valuable assets for AI development.
