How Data Labeling Service Fuels Robotics?

Will robots like Doraemon and Astro Boy accompany us in the future?

Will the Robot Market Usher in an Explosive Period with a 10 Times Increase in Ten Years?

Ten years, about 10 times growth, which is the expectation of Boston Consulting Company for the global robot market.

According to the latest research report of BCG, the global robot market will reach about 25 billion US dollars in 2020. The report also predicts that the global robot market will reach US $160 billion to US $260 billion by 2030.

When more and more people use small sweeping robots in their homes, and in more and more shopping malls we can see intelligent robots for navigation. Robots that used to exist in science fiction and science fiction movies have gradually integrated into people’s lives in reality.

According to the international organization for standardization, the robot is a kind of programmable execution equipment that has a certain degree of autonomy and can move in its environment to perform the expected tasks.

The international robotics Federation divides robots into industrial robots and service robots. Among them, industrial robot refers to the robot used in production process and environment; Service robots refer to all kinds of robots used in non-manufacturing industry and serving human beings.

An industrial robot is the first robot product to appear and get a large-scale application. In 2019 alone, a total of 365,000 new industrial robots were installed in the world, and the installation volume in Asia accounted for two-thirds of the global total.

However, among several robots, the Boston Consulting report is particularly optimistic about the development of service robots.

As an emerging field of robot industry, service robot highly integrates innovative technologies such as intelligence, sensing, network, and cloud computing, and combines with new formats and modes of mobile Internet, which provides an important breakthrough for promoting life intelligence and industrial transformation.

According to the report, by 2030, the global market scale of professional service robots will reach the value in the range of $90 billion — the US $170 billion, far exceeding the market scale of traditional industrial robots and cooperative robots with $40 billion to $50 billion.

How Will the Robot Market Change in the Next Decade?

Based on the analysis of technology maturity and demand, Boston Consulting believes that there are three possibilities for the development of the global robot market.

First, the personalized demand for robots in the market is increasing, but it is relatively difficult to develop robots that can achieve large-scale applications in different scenarios. This will force the market to design more targeted robots, which also means that the initial price of such robots will be very high.

Second, there are also robots in some fields that can become standardized automatic equipment. In this case, several robots that are easy to install, debug and integrate will lead the market.

For example, there are robot couriers, robot assemblers, or robots charging electric vehicles. Generally speaking, the R&D of this kind of standardized robot will not be very complicated.

Third, human beings may make breakthroughs in artificial intelligence in the next decade, resulting in a series of intelligent modules that can analyze complex and dynamic scenes. In this case, the robot supporting software will be the key factor for success.

In many fields, human beings are ushering in a new stage of “collaborative” development with robots.

Three Basic Elements in AI

The algorithm, computing power, and data are the three basic elements of the development of an intelligent robot. Just as a triangle needs three sides to stabilize its shape, artificial intelligence will also need all three elements to perfect itself.

Among them, data is the foundation, which provides the underlying support for the algorithm. If you compare an algorithm to a car, data is the fuel that drives the car forward.

Data is the Starting Point

In the process of in-depth industrial landing, there is still a gap between artificial intelligence technology and enterprise needs. The core goal of enterprise users is to use artificial intelligence technology to achieve business growth. Actually, artificial intelligence technology itself cannot directly solve all the business needs. It needs to create products and services that can be implemented on a large scale based on specific business scenarios and goals.

High-quality AI data will maximize the efficiency of artificial intelligence, while low-quality AI data will be not only impossible to improve the efficiency, but also will hinder the evolution of artificial intelligence to a certain extent.

If the general datasets used by the previous algorithm model are coarse grains, what the algorithm model needs at present is a customized nutritious meal. If companies want to further improve certain model’s commercialization, they must gradually move forward from the general dataset to create their own unique one.
