The Christmas/Hanukkah/Holiday festivity season is just around the corner and many of you may be planning on picking up a Nintendo Switch for one of your loved ones or yourself pretty soon. That being said, a video game console really isn’t much without a good set of games to go with it. As I am notorious around the site for knowing way too much about Nintendo consoles and games, I’ve composed a list of my favorite games for the Nintendo Switch that I think are worth every penny you’ll spend on them.

Super Mario Odyssey

This one should be pretty obvious given that Mario is Nintendo’s biggest mascot. Super Mario Odyssey is the latest installment in our favoirte Italian plumber’s zany adventures and is one doozy of a ride. It features a ton of fun gameplay, a great soundtrack of tunes, and all sorts of fun new worlds for players to explore and is definitely worth picking up if you are planning on getting a Nintendo Switch this Holiday season.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild

This Zelda game was a launch title for the Nintendo Switch and was a bit of a departure from the normal playstyle of the Zelda series. That being said, Nintendo’s gamble paid of because not only is it one of the best reviewed games of all time, it is also, one of the most fun. I still haven’t finished it due to the fact that I keep getting distracted in game from the main quest by all the interesting stuff there is to do and find in Hyrule.

Fire Emblem Warriors

Fire Emblem Warriors is also a series that takes a departure from its normal playstyles. This game takes members of the casts of various Fire Emblem games and throws them into the same timeline and features gameplay more akin to that of the Dynasty warriors series. That game features lots of battling your way through hordes of enemy armies as some of your favorite Fire Emblem heroes in an action oriented playstyle game, this title is sure to be a fun addition to any Switch player’s game collection

Skyrim

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was a hit with gamers a good while back when it released on PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360, but Nintendo gamers never really got the chance to try out the title on any of their consoles. That changes with the Nintendo Switch though due to the Skyrim port to the console

Doom

This too is a ported game but so far, fighting the armies of Hell on Mars has been a huge hit among gamers. If you are looking for some action packed shooter gameplay, this is the title for you.

Sonic Mania

Sonic Mania is a return to classic side scrolling Sonic fun that features the three playable characters of Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails …. and Knuckles …. With a ton of remastered and expanded upon levels from classic games, as well as a few new levels, and a challenge level that will keep gamers on their toes for the whole playthrough. It’s sure to be hit on your new Switch console

Pokken Tournament: DX

Pokken Tournament: DX is a port of the Wii U Pokken Tournament Title. It is a fighting game that features Pokemon as the combatants and has some pretty high paced fun to it. I did a full review of the game that you can find here if you would like more details

Mario Kart 8: Deluxe

What would a Nintendo console be without a Mario Kart title to destroy friendships with? But in all seriousness, Mario Kart 8: Deluxe is an expansion of the Wii U title but not only features all of its DLC, but also a brand new revamped battle mode that is everything players hoped and dreamed the original one would be.

Disgaea 5: Complete

Disgaea 5 is a bit of an odd title for some but if you are a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics gameplay style, you should check out this series. It is a strategy game that features all sorts of crazy cast members but also features a more JRPG style plot. If that sounds up your alley, check it out on the Switch.

Mario X Rabbids: Kingdom Battle

Nintendo and Ubisofts Mario X Rabbids crossover title initially was viewed with skepticism but once players got their hands on the title, they realized how much of a blast it was (no pun intended), and joined the hype train. This isn’t your typical Mario game in that it features strategy elements instead of the usual adventuring playstyle but its still a ton of fun nonetheless. If you are wanting to play an out of the normal box style Mario game, then check this out, or if you like good strategy games in genearal, you also should check this out.

Dragonball Xenoverse 2

Dragonball Xenoverse 2 is a port to the Switch and while it basically is the same game as its previous version on other consoles. While that may not sound appealing there is one key difference that the switch offers that the others can’t even come close to competing with. The motion controls. You heard me right. Motion Controls! If you do a Kamehameha motion while holding the Joycons, your character does too! Of course, that’s not the only move you can use them for but it is a big deal!

NBA 2k18

This game is a must for any NBA fan. The premise is simple, yet still fun. Create a player, become a pro, and then become the best in the league and win the Championship. If you are a basketball fan and want to purchase a Switch, check this title out.

Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 is a crazy paint shooting first person adventure that is way more fun than it has any right to be. With a surprising amount of strategy, and a whole lot of online gameplay action, this game is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike who just want to have some good ole fashioned goofy fun.

1 2 Switch

1–2-Switch is a great party game. Not so much if you play solo a lot, but if you host a lot of festivities and are looking for a goofy party game to create some great memories with friends, this is a must pick up.

Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight had a pretty fast rise to popularity amongst gamers and finds its fun in the same vein as old school side scrolling adventure games. Its appropriately challenging while remaining fun and has a great nostalgic feel to it. If you want some good, old school gaming fun, check this one out.
