Here’s how Poe Dameron escaped Jakku
One of the many mysteries and questions surrounding J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is, how did Poe Dameron escape Jakku?
After being rescued by Finn, Poe and Finn steal a TIE Fighter and head back to Jakku, where BB-8, who has the map to Luke Skywalker, is hiding out.
But during their escape, the First Order shoots their TIE Fighter out of the sky. When Finn wakes up in the sands of Jakku, he is lost and alone. Poe is nowhere to be found. After seeing the TIE Fighter swallowed whole by the sand, he assumes the worst, that Poe died.
And that’s exactly what Abrams and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan originally wanted to happen, before they decided to keep Poe around for future sequels. So, later when Finn, Rey, BB-8, Han Solo, and Chewbacca are at Maz’s cantina, the First Order attacks and Poe and the Resistance come swarming in, saving the day.
But how did Poe escape Jakku and return to the Resistance, especially considering how difficult of a time Finn and Rey were having?
The details of Poe’s escape were limited to a few short words in the movie, but the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” novelization reveals the full escape, which you can see explained in the Star Wars Minute video below.
