Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s awesome response to being offered Negan role on The Walking Dead
Jeffrey Dean Morgan was recently cast as the new big bad on The Walking Dead — Negan, one of Rick Grimes’ most fiercest and harrowing villains. While fans of the comic series have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, fans of the series don’t really know what’s coming.
Usually when someone has been cast in a role like this, in a show based off a comic series, the actors aren’t typically aware of the significance of their role. But Jeffrey Dean Morgan was. He knew exactly what role he was being offered without being told anything about it.
“When my agent/manager called they said, ‘You’ve been offered this thing on The Walking Dead…it’s to play this big bad.’ At the time, they didn’t know the character’s name, because I think it was supposed to be a secret,” Morgan told a crowd at Supernatural PasCon in Pasadena, CA (via Uproxx).
“And I’m like, ‘Is it f–king Negan?’ And they’re like, ‘I don’t know, we’re going to have to call you back, hold on a second.’ And I’m like, ‘No, it’s f–king Negan. And I’m f–king doing it.’”
This just further proves that Jeffery Dean Morgan is the perfect choice to play Negan — and the casting directors behind The Walking Dead knew that.
Negan’s name was name-dropped for the first time during the prologue for the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, which aired during Into the Badlands shortly after the midseason finale of The Walking Dead. It came from one of the Saviors telling Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham that all their stuff belongs to Negan now.
Just like the reveal of Andrew J. West’s Gareth, and Terminus, in The Walking Dead season four finale, Jeffrey Dean Morgan will first show up as Negan in The Walking Dead’s season six finale.
The Walking Dead returns on February 14th.
