Prison Break Revival Is Happening! It’ll Be A Sequel Event Series
Bringing back 24 as a limited series seemed to work so well for Fox that they decided to bring back The X-Files, too; and now they have confirmed that Prison Break will be coming back as well.
In 2016, Fox will air a 10-episode sequel event series that brings back BOTH brothers, played by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. Interestingly enough, both actors are appearing in another show that also starts in 2016, Legends of Tomorrow.
“I would describe it as a bit of a sequel,” Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden said at the TCA today. “It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don’t think [exec producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he’s going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience.
As for the little hiccup of Miller’s character, Michael Scofield, being dead and all, Walden said, “What [Paul] pitched to us was a very logical and believable — in the world of Prison Break — explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world.”
Essentially, they’re ignoring that fact. And why shouldn’t they? I’m in the boat of people that are excited for a Prison Break revival, just like I was excited for 24 to come back and am excited for The X-Files to come back.
