‘Zombieland 2’ Is Reportedly Filming This Summer — But Who’s Returning?

According to reports, Sony Pictures will begin filming “Zombieland 2” this summer in Atlanta, GA.

Several casting sites are reporting that “Zombieland 2” will begin principal photography in August 2016. This is definitely a good sign; however this should not be taken as a confirmation of filming, just that there is a likelihood. Considering that Sony Pictures revealed the film’s logo at CinemaCon 2016 earlier this month, this is certainly good news. Whether or not “Zombieland 2” does film this summer, we know that the movie is, in fact, happening.

But who will star in the sequel? While there hasn’t been any news regarding casting, each one of the original “Zombieland” stars — Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin — have expressed interest in a sequel over the years. Though writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick believe the idea would have to be good for it to happen.

In February, while promoting Tim Miller’s “Deadpool,” Reese and Wernick said, “…I think it has to be right. I think all the actors and [original ‘Zombieland’ director] Ruben [Fleischer], all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right.”

The original “Zombieland” movie released in 2009 and became a box office success, grossing over $100 million worldwide on an estimated $24 million production budget.
