While the blockchain space is ripe for innovation, there are some barriers that can slow development. One of the major obstacles for developers is blockchain integration.

That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our new integration with Rosetta, an open source toolkit from Coinbase designed to make blockchain integration simpler and more effective.

Through the integration, Nervos developers will be able to build on Nervos CKB — the layer 1, proof of work public blockchain protocol of the Nervos Network — without writing custom parsing, and exchanges will be able to easily access data on blockchains and tokens much faster.

Why Nervos is implementing Rosetta APIs

Integrating with a blockchain or an exchange is a time-consuming, technical process that requires the cooperation of all parties involved. Designed as “middleware” to help the currency exchange streamline the process of gathering information and approving tokens, Rosetta removes the technical obstacles associated with Coinbase services, including listing assets on the platform, Coinbase Earn, and Coinbase Custody.

Blockchains may have similarities, but they each have unique capabilities, nodes, APIs, and other factors, which means it can take developers and teams several weeks or even months to integrate with a blockchain. While there is no one-size-fits-all solution to blockchain integration, Rosetta offers the ability to access blocks, transactions, and balances of any blockchain in a standard format. In other words, by implementing the Rosetta API, Nervos is standardizing entry to its blockchain for the host of developers who could benefit from building on Nervos CKB.

Rosetta also makes it easier for exchanges to gather data on Nervos. Until recently, blockchains had to implement features manually to get their digital currency listed on exchanges. Now exchanges that support the Rosetta APIs, like Coinbase, can integrate with Nervos much faster and without risking customer funds — reducing the gap in the time between when a token is registered and actually listed on the exchange.

Because crypto investors often rely on exchanges and the information they provide to make their investment decisions, the transparency, openness, and efficiency that the Rosetta integration enables could potentially entice more people to spread their investments among a variety of crypto assets.

A shared vision: The future of Nervos and Rosetta

Like Nervos, the Coinbase team is making blockchain development easier and more accessible to blockchain developers and mainstream developers alike, which is why we decided to launch an integration with Rosetta. The Coinbase team also hopes the adoption of Rosetta will spur interoperability, which is one of Nervos’ core values as a blockchain focused on the integration of permissioned and permissionless blockchains.

While we don’t take our collaborations with other ecosystems lightly, we also realize that forming connections is crucial to not only Nervos’ success but the greater good of the community and industry. Whether our integration with BSN, Rosetta, or another project, one of our main focuses will always be giving our developer community the access and flexibility they need to innovate.
