Nervos Network — Community Update October 2018
Both development & community updates
Hello and happy Halloween from Prague! We are visiting Prague for the lovely Devcon iv. The chilly atmosphere and gothic architectures here provide the perfect backdrop for the spookiness of Halloween :) Here comes our monthly #proof-of-work for October.
Development (thanks for Jan Xie’s input)
High-level engineering accomplishments this month
- We updated CKB Virtual Machine (CKB-VM) to support RISC-V 64-bit instructions, and successfully implemented secp256k1 verify on CKB-VM;
- Lots of work being done related to consensus, including configurable PoW and more complete consensus rules;
- A lot of time on testing, we also enhanced CKB’s integration test framework.
Key Features Update
- Supports RISC-V 64 bit instructions
- Configurable PoW (Experiment)
- Added a Pow engine which produces new block on RPC call for testing
- Uncles verification
- Refactor export/import
- Enhanced integration test framework. Added integration test framework for network
- Redesigned transaction pool for a new consensus
- Integrated CKB-VM, and deploy cryptography library on CKB-VM to verify signatures
- Experiments with flat buffers
- Fixed difficulty verification and Cuckoo panic
For future updates on Nervos CKB, please check on Nervos Network Github (Nervos CKB will be open-sourced in Q4 this year)
Community
- We co-hosted a Layer 2 themed gathering with Celer on the night of 29th in Prague with a stellar line of developers and researchers from 15 layer2 related projects including L4, Connext, Raiden, PISA, Loom, Liquidity…and more! Please stay tuned for the recap!
- Earlier this month, we hosted the Future of Layer 2 tech discussion during San Francisco Blockchain Week on Oct 8th. Here are links to the event recap and video.
- At an event co-hosted by Nervos and ABC Blockchain Community on October 11 in Palo Alto, Jan presented “A Deep Dive into Nervos’ Layered Design” to a room full of engineers (some of them are CTOs of other projects like Elastos, Moac, Harmony, IoTex…). Here is the video.
- Jan did an AMA with Matt Quinn (co-founder of Starfish Network), check out Episode 1 (technical)and Episode 2 (more casual).
- We have started a regular Blockchain Developer Meetup which takes place every Wednesday in Hangzhou, it covers many educational topics as we hope to accelerate the adoption of blockchain in the Chinese developer community, you can find many interesting presentation we recorded during those meetups on our Chinese youtube channel.
- Here is a guide that Toya B compiled to help people navigate through the Devcon4 Week: A (more or less) Comprehensive Guide to Devcon4 Week in Prague, hope to meet some of you in Prague!
