2020 Q4 Nervos Quarterly Letter

Following a massive year of growth for the Nervos ecosystem, we’re excited to share the major updates, tools, and partnerships announced during the last quarter of 2020.

While our community and the Nervos team continue to grow, we saw several major technical updates in Q4, including the launch of Force Bridge, our cross-chain bridge that will connect Nervos to Ethereum (and other chains in the near future); GliaSwap, a new cross-chain DEX demo project and an example project built on Layer 2 of the Nervos blockchain; and the Simple User Defined Token (SUDT), the new token standard of Nervos.

Most of the ecosystem progress in Q4 can be sorted into two categories, infrastructure and interoperability 2.0, or as we like to call it: The Universal Passport to Blockchain.

Infrastructure Updates

Because of the key role the CKB blockchain plays in the Nervos Network, we prioritize stability and security over other things in CKB development, so in Q4 CKB went from 0.37.0-rc1 to 0.39.0, having added many new RPCs based on community feedback. We also saw updates from Neuron, the desktop wallet, as well as in the refactoring of storage to make the growth of Nervos as smooth as possible. We look forward to constantly improving the Nervos Network infrastructure moving forward.

The Universal Passport

At Nervos we see the need for the next generation of interoperability, or Interoperability 2.0, a solution which we have branded as the Universal Passport to Blockchain. We feel that advancements need to be made to build an internet-like, layered, public blockchain network — one that is easy for users to navigate as an internet browser.

The Universal Passport solves for this by presenting the user an experience where they are not left to contemplate the technical complexities, yet the developers who are empowered by the tools in the Universal Passport to build universal applications have everything they need.

To provide users with an easy-to-navigate blockchain experience, Nervos is currently focused on three pieces of the Interoperability 2.0 puzzle: Pw-sdk, Force Bridge and Polyjuice.

More Core Development

Now at more than 89,000 members strong, Nervos’ community continues to grow rapidly as we expand our footprint in more countries around the world. In Q4, we welcomed new key hires and continued to work with our Grants Program recipients and CKLabs participants to provide hands-on support and resources so they can progress in their projects. Be sure to check out the report for a full list of projects building on and integrating with Nervos.
