Solar Share: our first Solar experiment ☀️

The first step to build a smart-city is free energy.

Let’s talk about energy. Why do we pay for it? 🤔

The sun provides enough energy, for free. All you need is a device to capture it. Unfortunately, there’s usually a few caveats to these devices:

  • They require a lot of money, upfront.
  • Not practical for renters, only homeowners.
  • You have to set them up or pay someone to do it.
  • Batteries aren’t cost-effective (yet) to practically store excess energy.

NestEgg’s envisions an alternative User Experience…

Owning access to the energy you need should be simple ⚡️

  1. Open up a dashboard
  2. Browse and crowdfund a few solar projects
  3. Get back to what you were doing. Your energy bill is now cheaper. Forever.
Make an account, browse new projects, sit back and watch your kWh trickle into your bank account.

Our Vision:

Build a portfolio of solar-panel shares so that you no longer pay for energy.*

You own shares of all this infrastructure and receive the credit to reduce your energy bill.

⚠️ * Note: Not quite possible (yet). This is the vision we’re chasing.

☀️ Introducing Solar Share ☀️

You can sign up for our Solar Share program today!

If you’ve been following us this past year, you know we’ve been running other experiments to test our technology. Now we’re finally able to use our platform for neighbors to share solar panels being deployed in their neighborhood!

How does this work? 🤔

NestEgg is setting up it’s first pilot in Limburg, Netherlands. We’ll be taking advantage of a specific dutch solar panel subsidy called Postcoderoos (PCR) or “Post Code Rows” in english.

This subsidy exempts participants who purchase shares of solar installations within their adjacent zipcode from paying an energy tax for 15 years.

Thus, the first pilot will deploy panels on a neighbor’s (or local business’) rooftop. We’ll track the energy production by installing a tamperproof IoT device which also helps automate the dividend process.

The building with installed panels will be able to transition away from paying the energy company each month, and instead will pay a flat rate per kWh used from the crowd’s share. Thus, if the rooftop owner crowdfunded 90% of the solar panel costs, they’ll pay a flat kWh price for 90% of the energy generated. This converts the kWh into euro which can be distributed to the crowdfunders who can withdraw to their bank account each month.

When will this be ready? ⏳

You can signup RIGHT NOW to reserve your slot for our (estimated) November Pilot Launch.

Reserving your slot now guarantees you’ll be at the top of the list to join our first solarpanel crowdfund. We’re currently planning for a test installation on a colleague’s roof. This test will allow us to fine-tune the IoT sensor which tracks energy production and how our system distributes the credits.

Sign up today and receive weekly updates from our team as we approach the first solar panel deployment! 👇
