Meet Prashant Kulkarni: The Procurement Manager Helping Make Nestlé’s Renewable Energy Future a Reality
One of the Faces of Nestlé driving a positive impact on individuals & families, communities, and our planet
Prashant Kulkarni is a Group Manager for the procurement of energy and agricultural commodities for Nestlé North America.
In my eight years at Nestlé, I have had the pleasure of working on the financial risk management side as well as the physical purchasing side of the business. In my role, I help purchase some of our largest commodity products such as grain, sugar and vegetable oil for some of our leading household brands. I also help manage our energy portfolio, a big part of which includes our renewable energy mix.
More and more of my time is being spent on our renewable electricity portfolio as part of Nestlé’s global commitment to renewables. As a member of RE100, we aim to procure 100% of our electricity globally from renewable sources within the shortest practical timescale. At the same time, we are working to reduce Nestlé’s greenhouse gas emissions by 35% relative to 2010 levels.
Here in the U.S., we have a big opportunity to contribute to that, as the US market is the biggest consumer of electricity in Nestlé globally. We work in many ways to make this happen — through onsite energy efficiency projects at our factories, to evaluating complex renewable electricity purchasing opportunities. Equally important to our commitment to reducing greenhouse gases is minimizing our waste within our factories through creative programs and applications. With efforts like these, we can invest in a healthier planet to enhance quality of life and contribute to a healthier future for generations.
I am constantly inspired by my team members here in the U.S. and across the globe. I have the opportunity to work with a team of passionate, intelligent colleagues who are all committed to driving the principles of Creating Shared Value forward through responsible purchasing decisions on behalf of the company, both for agricultural commodity purchasing as well as our renewable energy portfolio.
