Cyclone Alert in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh Coasts: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Odisha and Andhra Pradesh as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal had intensified into a cyclonic storm, Titli, and was moving towards the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast.

Cyclone ‘Titli’ is currently centered about 510 km southeast of Gopalpur and will cross Odisha and the adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast between Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam.

The IMD has also issued a ‘red warning’ and ‘orange warning’ for certain districts for extremely heavy rainfall and heavy rainfall, respectively, which are likely to occur on October 10.

While extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara district, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Khura, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhardak and Balasore districts on October 10.

The state government of Odisha has declared holidays for schools and colleges in the districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea areas of central Bay of Bengal from October 8–12 and north Bay of Bengal from October 9–12.
