Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal warns people against voting for Congress in General Elections 2019

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday, appealed to people to not vote for the Congress party. His warning came even as speculations are rife that his party may form an alliance with the Congress in the Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a gathering in Kakrola, Kejriwal also urged voters to not vote for the BJP claiming that the party’s seven MPs have not done anything for Delhi.

“Don’t vote for the Congress at all, if you vote for the Congress it will strengthen Narendra Modi. Let not your vote split and give all seven MPs to the AAP,” Kejriwal was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Kejriwal’s comments are significant on the backdrop of talks of a pre-poll alliance between AAP and Congress to counter the BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

There has, however, been no formal announcement on the alliance. In fact, most recently, Gopal Rai of AAP, said that the decision to form an alliance would be taken after considering the inputs of party leaders and workers in Haryana, Punjab and Delhi, on January 15. The Congress too has been sending confusing signals on an alliance with AAP. While Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken, who was critical of his party’s alliance with AAP, resigned days ago, former Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit has maintained that the decision to form an alliance rests with the party’s national leadership.

In its recent meeting, the AAP national executive has decided to contest 33 seats in the states of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Goa and Chandigarh.
