Drought-like Situation, 425 tankers deployed for Water Supply

The state is witnessing the worst October heat on one hand and on the other due to the scarcity of water, the drought-like situation is been seen in parts of Maharashtra, 425 water tankers have been deployed for water supply in the affected regions.

The total water storage has come down to 61% which is down by 15% as compared to last year. Around 336 private and 89 government tankers have been deployed to 386 villages and 638 wards in Maharashtra.

Last year only 89 tankers were deployed for water supply, this year it is almost 5 times of the tankers sent by the government as compared to last year.

The most number of tankers i.e. 235 tankers are sent to Marathwada region while 152 tankers in North Maharashtra division, 27 tankers in Pune division and 9 tankers are operating in Amravati division.

Last year Marathwada dams had water storage of around 69.93% whereas this year it is just 24.25%, which clearly indicates the serious water crisis in Marathwada.

Available Water storage in the small water projects is 38.62%, 51.75% water stock in medium projects and 69% water stock in major projects. The state government is conducting the survey in the drought-affected areas. The state has cleared its stand that it will declare the drought, only after complete survey and research. Recently CM Devendra Fadnvis in his speech has demanded help for Maharashtra from the Centre to get relief from drought
